Psalm 23

Memory Verse:   Psalm 23:1  NKJV     “The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want.”

Life Application:  God provides everything I need.

Psalm 23      “The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want.  He makes me to lie down in green pastures;

He leads me beside the still waters. He restores my soul;

He leads me in the paths of righteousness For His name’s sake.

Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil; For You are with me;

Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me.  You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies;

You anoint my head with oil; My cup runs over.  Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me All the days of

my life; And I will dwell in the house of the Lord Forever.”

     Psalm 23 was written by King David.  This passage in the Bible  tells about how God is our Shepherd.

A shepherd is:

somebody who tends to sheep

somebody who looks after sheep

somebody providing guidance

somebody who is responsible for caring for and guiding a group of people

Someone who takes care of others

Someone who looks after the well-being of a group of people

Someone who guides a group of people somewhere

Before David was a king, he was a shepherd. He took care of his father’s sheep when he was a boy. He would guide his father’s sheep to safe places, protect them from bad things, and give them food and water and a safe place to sleep. David knew a lot about sheep since he had taken care of some before. As he learned more and more about God, he started to think God was a lot like a shepherd.

God provides for us.

God gives us restful times.

God leads us to places that are right and good for us.

God protects us when we are in danger.

God thinks each of us are special.

     God is our shepherd. God cares for us just like a shepherd cares for his sheep. When we think of God as our Shepherd, we know we can trust Him for everything and anything. God will take care of us like the shepherd takes care of his sheep.
