We can let our light shine through self-control. Restraint or the ability to control your own behavior is referred to as self-control. Self-control is a choice which will keep a person from overreacting or reacting impulsively. A person with self-control chooses to stay in control of their thoughts, words, feelings, and actions. They will behave wisely.
1 Samuel 18:5 NKJV “So David went out wherever Saul sent him, and behaved wisely.”
Just as David behaved wisely and exhibited self-control, so should we. With the power that is given to us through the Holy Spirit we can exercise restraint instead of being controlled by our emotions, and our ups and downs. Self-control will help us live a life worthy of God and one that glorifies Him.
1 Thessalonians 2:10-12 NKJV “You are witnesses, and God also, how devoutly and justly and blamelessly we behaved ourselves among you who believe; as you know how we exhorted, and comforted, and charged every one of you, as a father does his own children, that you would walk worthy of God who calls you into His own kingdom and glory.”
Father, We thank-you for this time of the year when we can come together to remember all that You have done. Thank-you that you have given us the ability to control our behavior. By the power of the Holy Spirit may we not overreact or reacting impulsively. Fill us with a desire to stay in control of our thoughts, words, feelings, and actions. And may we behave wisely. Help us to live a life that glorifies You. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
