Do What You Have To Do – Worship Even When Others Don’t

Life Application: We should delight at opportunities to join with others in worshipping God.
Bible Text:
Matthew 15:9
Luke 7:37-38
Psalm 122:1
Psalm 9:1-2
1 Chronicles 16:29
Psalm 95:1-6
When the woman with the alabaster box left her house to go to the home of the Pharisee, she went with one thing in mind. To worship the King, Jesus Christ. She desired to worship Him because of the gratitude in her heart for His acceptance and forgiveness. As she left her home and walked toward Simon’s house, did she think, even for one moment, that she would wash his feet with her tears and dry them with her hair? Did it ever occur to her that she would be the only one gathered there to worship Jesus?
All across America people gather each week for their Sunday service. Some of the people gather there with the expressed purpose of worshiping the Lord. Others are like the Pharisees. They gather for a variety of reasons, but the wrong reasons.
Matthew 15:9 NKJV “These people draw near to Me with their mouth,
And honor Me with their lips,
But their heart is far from Me.
And in vain they worship Me,
Teaching as doctrines the commandments of men.”
As the woman entered the house where Jesus was what she saw grieved her and cut to her heart. There sat Jesus, the King, with His needs not met. She knew their customs and she knew that His feet should have been washed. But there He sat at the table with unclean feet. He had not had His needs ministered to. Tears began to fill her eyes at the thought of her King not receiving the respect that He was due. She decided to do whatever she had to do to see that Jesus’ needs were met.
Luke 7:37-38 NKJV “And behold, a woman in the city who was a sinner, when she knew that Jesus sat at the table in the Pharisee’s house, brought an alabaster flask of fragrant oil, and stood at His feet behind Him weeping; and she began to wash His feet with her tears, and wiped them with the hair of her head; and she kissed His feet and anointed them with the fragrant oil.”
There may be times that you are in a service and you sense that the Lord has not been ministered to. Like the woman, your eyes may fill with tears as your heart seems to break.
Psalm 122:1 NKJV “I was glad when they said to me,
‘Let us go into the house of the Lord.’ ”
We should delight at the prospect of worshiping God . As we prepare to go to the house of the Lord, we must purpose in our heart that we will worship the Lord even if no one else does. Like the woman, we must do whatever we have to do in order to see our Lord and King’s needs are met.
Psalm 9:1-2 NKJV “I will praise You, O Lord, with my whole heart;
I will tell of Your marvelous works.
I will be glad and rejoice in You;
I will sing praise to Your name, O Most High.”
1 Chronicles 16:29 NKJV “Give to the Lord the glory due His name;
Bring an offering, and come before Him.
Oh, worship the Lord in the beauty of holiness!”
Psalm 95:1-6 NKJV “Oh come, let us sing to the Lord!
Let us shout joyfully to the Rock of our salvation.
Let us come before His presence with thanksgiving;
Let us shout joyfully to Him with psalms
For the Lord is the great God,
And the great King above all gods.
In His hand are the deep places of the earth;
The heights of the hills are His also.
The sea is His, for He made it;
And His hands formed the dry land.
Oh come, let us worship and bow down;
Let us kneel before the Lord our Maker.”
