Mary Has A Visit From An Angel

God sent an angel named Gabriel to appear to Mary in the city of Nazareth in Galilee. Mary was a young woman who was engaged to marry Joseph, a carpenter of Nazareth. Both Mary and Joseph were of the family of King David. The angel Gabriel, spoke to Mary and told her that she was favored by God. The Holy Spirit would overshadow her and place within her Jesus, the Son of God, the Light of the World. Mary gladly accepted the words of the angel because she was a faithful servant of the Lord. Then the angel disappeared.

Luke 1:26-38  NKJV     “Now in the sixth month the angel Gabriel was sent by God to a city of Galilee named Nazareth, to a virgin betrothed to a man whose name was Joseph, of the house of David. The virgin’s name was Mary. And having come in, the angel said to her, “Rejoice, highly favored one, the Lord is with you; blessed are you among women!” But when she saw him, she was troubled at his saying, and considered what manner of greeting this was. Then the angel said to her, “Do not be afraid, Mary, for you have found favor with God. And behold, you will conceive in your womb and bring forth a Son, and shall call His name Jesus. He will be great, and will be called the Son of the Highest; and the Lord God will give Him the throne of His father David. And He will reign over the house of Jacob forever, and of His kingdom there will be no end.” Then Mary said to the angel, “How can this be, since I do not know a man?” And the angel answered and said to her, “The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Highest will overshadow you; therefore, also, that Holy One who is to be born will be called the Son of God. Now indeed, Elizabeth your relative has also conceived a son in her old age; and this is now the sixth month for her who was called barren. For with God nothing will be impossible. Then Mary said, “Behold the maidservant of the Lord! Let it be to me according to your word.” And the angel departed from her.”

Joseph and Mary went to Bethlehem for a census when Mary was almost ready to have her baby. After arriving in Bethlehem Joseph and Mary could not find a room in the inn because of the large number of visitors to the town. All Joseph could find was a stable behind the inn. While staying in the stable Jesus was born.

Mary and Joseph Take Jesus To The Temple

When Jesus was eight days old Mary and Joseph took Him to the temple in Jerusalem to present Him to the Lord.  At the temple, Simeon, a very righteous man, and Anna, who was a devoted servant of God knew who Jesus was the moment they saw Him. God had revealed to them that Jesus was the Messiah through the power of the Holy Spirit.

After His dedication, Mary and Joseph returned home, to Nazareth, with their new baby, Baby Jesus.

Luke 2:21-22  NKJV     “And when eight days were completed for the circumcision of the Child, His name was called Jesus, the name given by the angel before He was conceived in the womb. Now when the days of her purification according to the law of Moses were completed, they brought Him to Jerusalem to present Him to the Lord”

Jesus grew and became strong in spirit, filled with wisdom, and the grace of God was upon Him.

Luke 2:40  NKJV     “And the Child grew and became strong in spirit, filled with wisdom; and the grace of God was upon Him.”
