2. Introduction – Noah’s Ark

Once upon a time there was a big, big boat, filled with all kinds of animals. It resembled a large floating zoo. It was filled with every kind of animal imaginable. It all start when God looked down from heaven and saw all the evil committed by man.

God has created man to have fellowship with Him, but over the many years since his creation he had turned from God and from godly ways. He no longer obeyed God, nor did he desire to walk with God. The hearts of man had became wicked and filled with violence.

As God looked down at man and all his evil ways it made Him sad that He had ever created them. Everyone had turned from Him, that is everyone except Noah. Noah was the great, great, great, great, great, great, great, grandson of Adam, the first man. Everywhere God looked there was evil, violence, and hatred of every kind. Despite living in a wicked world Noah still loved God and he still followed God. His heart’s desire was to do right in the sight of God.

As God thought about everything He saw He decided that He would start over. Since Noah was the only one that was still righteous God would use him to start over. Although it grieved His heart, He would destroy everyone except Noah and his family. Because of his godly lifestyle Noah had found grace and favor with God.

“I’m going to bring a great flood of water on the earth, to cover all the land and drown all the people on the earth. This great flood will not only drown the people, it will also drown all the animals, so an ark will be needed to save your family as well as animals,” said God. Then God told Noah that in order to preserve the animals and his family he was to build a boat. This would not be an ordinary boat. It was to be very long and very wide and very deep, with a roof over it. It would resembled a long, wide three story house. Noah was to build the boat according to God’s instructions, and to be ready for when he would need it.

God told Noah to take with them on the boat all the food that they would need for a year, enough for his family and for the animals.

Noah believed God and he set out to build the boat. It seemed very strange to the other people. As Noah and his three sons worked on the boat the people would come by just to see. They would laugh at Noah and make all kinds of jokes and remarks. Noah and his family would tell the people what God had said about the water covering the earth. This really made them laugh, after all, there was no water at all in their area. Also because it had never rained before. For one hundred and twenty years they worked and worked, and worked on the boat.

At last the big boat was finished. Just as God had instructed, they put a door on the side at the bottom and a small window at the top.

Then God instructed Noah to gather animals and put them on the boat. He was to take with them on the boat seven pairs of the animals that they would need, and one pair of all the rest. That way all kinds of animals would survive the flood that God was going to send.

So Noah and his family did as God told them. The gathered all the supplies that they would need. And as God supernaturally brought the animals to the door of the boat, Noah and his family would take them onto the big boat. They put the animals in their places and brought in food for them.

One day, after Noah, his wife, their three sons and their wives entered the boat God shut and sealed the door to the boat. It could not be opened by anyone. No more people or animals would be allowed on the big boat.

4. Memory Verse

Hebrews 11:7 “By faith Noah, being divinely warned of things not yet seen, moved with godly fear, prepared an ark for the saving of his household.”

5. Obedience and Disobedience

Obedience is doing what you are asked to do immediately, completely, and willingly. It can also be described as following instructions.

There is a big difference between obedience and disobedience, both now and in the future. Obedience brings good things into our lives and it is always rewarded. Disobedience brings heartache and pain. God expects us to obey. Just like in the days of Noah, time will run out for man to obey. Then the whole world will be judged. Disobedience will be judged and those walking in disobedience will be punished. Those who are obedient will receive great rewards.

6. Game – Kangaroo Hop Relay Race

Hebrews 11:7 “By faith Noah, being divinely warned of things not yet seen, moved with godly fear, prepared an ark for the saving of his household.”

Divide the children into 2 teams. Line the teams up at one end of the room.

At the signal the first person on each team is to hop to the front and say the memory verse, then hop back to their team. The next person on the team will do the same thing.

The team that finishes first is the winner.

7. Noah

The earth had become completely corrupt and over time God was grieved. The people He had created had become extremely sinful and had rejected Him and His love.

Genesis 6:1-7 NKJV     “Now it came to pass, when men began to multiply on the face of the earth, and daughters were born to them,
that the sons of God saw the daughters of men, that they were beautiful; and they took wives for themselves of all whom they chose. And the Lord said, “My Spirit shall not strive with man forever, for he is indeed flesh; yet his days shall be one hundred and twenty years.” There were giants on the earth in those days, and also afterward, when the sons of God came in to the daughters of men and they bore children to them. Those were the mighty men who were of old, men of renown. Then the Lord saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every intent of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually. And the Lord was sorry that He had made man on the earth, and He was grieved in His heart. So the Lord said, “I will destroy man whom I have created from the face of the earth, both man and beast, creeping thing and birds of the air, for I am sorry that I have made them.”

However, God was not willing to break His promise to redeem man so He looked for a righteous person. During this time, Noah was the only person in this society who walked with God. Despite his sinful surrounding, Noah continued to live a righteous life. Despite how bad other people were, Noah continued doing what was right in God’s sight.

Genesis 6:8-9 NKJV     “But Noah found grace in the eyes of the Lord.
This is the genealogy of Noah. Noah was a just man, perfect in his generations. Noah walked with God.”

Noah and his wife had three sons: Shem, Ham, and Japheth.

Genesis 6:10 NKJV “And Noah begot three sons: Shem, Ham, and Japheth.”

God told Noah that He was going to destroy the world

Genesis 6:11-13 NKJV “The earth also was corrupt before God, and the earth was filled with violence.
So God looked upon the earth, and indeed it was corrupt; for all flesh had corrupted their way on the earth.
And God said to Noah, “The end of all flesh has come before Me, for the earth is filled with violence through them; and behold, I will destroy them with the earth.”

8. GameWalk With God

Need: papers with numbers written on them, music

God invites everyone to come to have a personal relationship with Him. The Bible tells us that the only way to God is through Jesus. If we believe in Jesus and accept Him as our Savior, our sins will be forgiven. Some people get too busy in their lives to accept God’s offer. Even after some people accept Jesus as Savior, they get too busy to know Him as He desires for them to. God wants to forgive our sins and He wants us to take time to know Him.

One day Jesus will return for those that have an intimate relationship with Him. Only those who have prepared themselves and are watching will go with Jesus when He returns. We can prepare ourselves for Jesus’ return by walking with Him every day.

Everyone can play. (play several times)

Before meeting place pieces of papers with numbers them on the floor in a circle.

Have the children stand on the papers – 1 person to 1 paper.

Play music, then stop it

When the music stops and everyone is on a circle call (draw) a number. Whoever is standing on the number wins – They walked with God.

9. The Ark

Noah was told to build an ark – a very large boat. God gave Noah instructions concerning the design and dimensions of the ark. The ark was about 450 feet long, 75 feet wide, and 45 feet high. It had three decks and was divided into compartments. Calculations have been made estimating that there was room in the ark for 7000 species of animals.

Genesis 6:14-16 NKJV “Make yourself an ark of gopherwood; make rooms in the ark, and cover it inside and outside with pitch. And this is how you shall make it: The length of the ark shall be three hundred cubits, its width fifty cubits, and its height thirty cubits. You shall make a window for the ark, and you shall finish it to a cubit from above; and set the door of the ark in its side. You shall make it with lower, second, and third decks.”

People no doubt made fun of Noah and some may have even hated him, but Noah continued to be obedient and faithful to God. He continued to build the ark no matter what those around him thought. Finally after one hundred and twenty years the ark was completed. God spoke to Noah giving Him further instructions. Noah was to take seven each of every clean animal, a male and his female; two each of animals that were unclean, a male and his female; also seven each of birds of the air, male and female.

Genesis 6:17-22 NKJV “And behold, I Myself am bringing floodwaters on the earth, to destroy from under heaven all flesh in which is the breath of life; everything that is on the earth shall die. But I will establish My covenant with you; and you shall go into the ark—you, your sons, your wife, and your sons’ wives with you. And of every living thing of all flesh you shall bring two of every sort into the ark, to keep them alive with you; they shall be male and female. Of the birds after their kind, of animals after their kind, and of every creeping thing of the earth after its kind, two of every kind will come to you to keep them alive. And you shall take for yourself of all food that is eaten, and you shall gather it to yourself; and it shall be food for you and for them.” Thus Noah did; according to all that God commanded him, so he did.”

Genesis 7:1-9 NKJV “Then the Lord said to Noah, “Come into the ark, you and all your household, because I have seen that you are righteous before Me in this generation. You shall take with you seven each of every clean animal, a male and his female; two each of animals that are unclean, a male and his female; also seven each of birds of the air, male and female, to keep the species alive on the face of all the earth. For after seven more days I will cause it to rain on the earth forty days and forty nights, and I will destroy from the face of the earth all living things that I have made.” And Noah did according to all that the Lord commanded him. Noah was six hundred years old when the floodwaters were on the earth. So Noah, with his sons, his wife, and his sons’ wives, went into the ark because of the waters of the flood. Of clean animals, of animals that are unclean, of birds, and of everything that creeps on the earth, two by two they went into the ark to Noah, male and female, as God had commanded Noah.”

Two of every animal (a male and a female) were to keep the species and the other five of the every clean animal, and the other five of each of birds of the air were possibly for food and for a sacrifice later on.

Genesis 8:20-22 NKJV “Then Noah built an altar to the Lord, and took of every clean animal and of every clean bird, and offered burnt offerings on the altar. And the Lord smelled a soothing aroma. Then the Lord said in His heart, “I will never again curse the ground for man’s sake, although the imagination of man’s heart is evil from his youth; nor will I again destroy every living thing as I have done. “While the earth remains, Seedtime and harvest, Cold and heat, Winter and summer, And day and night Shall not cease.”

10. Game – I’m Riding On An Ark…

Need: a ball

Have the children sit in a circle.

Begin the game by saying, “I’m riding on the ark with a (name of an animal).” Name a animal, then toss the ball to another person in the circle. That person repeats the sentence so far, then adds their own animal. See if you can get all the way around the circle without forgetting an animal.

12. Challenge and Altar Call

Noah still loved God and he still followed God despite living in a wicked world. Sinful people were ruining God’s world. Noah’s heart’s desire was to do right in the sight of God. His life consistently reflected godliness.

God gave Noah clear instructions on how he and his family could be saved. Noah obeyed God. Because of obedience Noah and his family were saved from the destruction that came upon the earth through the flood.

God had extended to the people a grace period of 120 years before He destroyed the world. During the 120 years that it took Noah to build the ark the people had an opportunity to turn from their sin and to turn to God. However, they did not. They never repented therefore they were judged and condemned to die.

If there was not a man and a family who by God’s grace stood out from the wickedness of their day, there would have been a new beginning to the world that did not include man.

Like Noah we live in a wicked world. Sin abounds everywhere we look. It must be our heart’s desire to do right in the sight of God if we want to be saved. Our lives must reflect godliness. God has given us clear instructions on how we, too, can be saved and escape the coming destruction.

Acts 16:31 NKJV     “So they said, ‘Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and you will be saved, you and your household.’ ”

The next time that God destroys the world it will be with fire and not with water. If we truly believe on the Lord Jesus Christ we will be saved. We are living under a period of grace.

Sin and wickedness will not be part of the new heavens and the new earth. Just like in the days of Noah, sinful man will be judged and condemned. It is not God’s desire that we perish, but that we have eternal life with Him. However, the choice is ours.

Allow the children time to pray.

When God looks at your heart, what does He see?

Is your lifestyle one that pleases God?

Are you obedient to God?

Will you be part of the new heavens and the new earth?

Do you desire a closer walk with God?
