2. Introduction – God Gave A Sign
After being on the boat for a little over a year, Noah and his family finally were told by God that they were to leave the boat. After Noah and his family had removed all the animals from the boat, Noah built an alter.
Noah was completely devoted to God and he wanted to offer to God a magnificent sacrifice because He had preserved him and his family from the flood.
On the alter Noah sacrificed animals and birds from all the clean animals that were on the ark. Noah made a promise to God that he and his family would do God’s will.
God smelled a soothing aroma coming up from Noah’s sacrifice. He was well pleased with Noah and his offering. God received Noah’s offering as an act of devotion and love toward Him. Then God said in His heart,” I will never again curse the ground for man’s sake, although the imagination of man’s heart is evil from his youth; nor will I again destroy every living thing as I have done.”
Noah and his sons were blessed by God, and He said to them, “Be fruitful and multiply, and fill the earth.” God then told Noah that man would be over every beast of the field, every bird in the air, and every creature in the sea. “Every animal and green herb shall be food for you,” said God.
Then God said to Noah and his sons, “ I make a covenant with you: Never again shall there be a flood to destroy the earth.” All at once a rainbow to appeared in the sky. “I have set My rainbow in the cloud, and it shall be a sign of My covenant between Me and all flesh.“

5. Covenants
A covenant is an agreement made between two or more people that all promise not to break. Throughout the Bible we see several covenants that God made with man. God has always and will always keep His promises.
Some examples of covenants that God made with man are:
God’s covenant with Noah.
God’s covenant with Abraham.
God’s covenant with David.

6. God’s Covenant With Noah
The flood waters had been on the earth, and Noah and his family had been in the ark, for over a full year.
Genesis 8:13-14 NKJV “ And it came to pass in the six hundred and first year, in the first month, the first day of the month, that the waters were dried up from the earth; and Noah removed the covering of the ark and looked, and indeed the surface of the ground was dry. And in the second month, on the twenty-seventh day of the month, the earth was dried.”
Now that the floodwaters had dried up and the danger was past, God spoke to Noah and told him it was time to leave the ark.
Genesis 8:15-19 NKJV “Then God spoke to Noah, saying, “Go out of the ark, you and your wife, and your sons and your sons’ wives with you. Bring out with you every living thing of all flesh that is with you: birds and cattle and every creeping thing that creeps on the earth, so that they may abound on the earth, and be fruitful and multiply on the earth.” So Noah went out, and his sons and his wife and his sons’ wives with him. Every animal, every creeping thing, every bird, and whatever creeps on the earth, according to their families, went out of the ark.”
Out of his thankfulness and his devotion, Noah built an altar and sacrificed animals and birds, chosen from the clean animals that had been preserved on the ark. The sacrifice was pleasing and acceptable to God. God received Noah’s offering and in turn made a promise to him. God promised that the entire earth would not be devastated by a flood again.
Genesis 8:20-22 NKJV “Then Noah built an altar to the Lord, and took of every clean animal and of every clean bird, and offered burnt offerings on the altar. And the Lord smelled a soothing aroma. Then the Lord said in His heart, “I will never again curse the ground for man’s sake, although the imagination of man’s heart is evil from his youth; nor will I again destroy every living thing as I have done. “While the earth remains, Seedtime and harvest, Cold and heat, Winter and summer, And day and night Shall not cease.”
Genesis 9:1-7 NKJV “So God blessed Noah and his sons, and said to them: “Be fruitful and multiply, and fill the earth. And the fear of you and the dread of you shall be on every beast of the earth, on every bird of the air, on all that move on the earth, and on all the fish of the sea. They are given into your hand. Every moving thing that lives shall be food for you. I have given you all things, even as the green herbs. But you shall not eat flesh with its life, that is, its blood. Surely for your lifeblood I will demand a reckoning; from the hand of every beast I will require it, and from the hand of man. From the hand of every man’s brother I will require the life of man. “Whoever sheds man’s blood, By man his blood shall be shed; For in the image of God He made man. And as for you, be fruitful and multiply; Bring forth abundantly in the earth And multiply in it.”
Genesis 9:8-11 NKJV “Then God spoke to Noah and to his sons with him, saying: “And as for Me, behold, I establish My covenant with you and with your descendants after you, and with every living creature that is with you: the birds, the cattle, and every beast of the earth with you, of all that go out of the ark, every beast of the earth. Thus I establish My covenant with you: Never again shall all flesh be cut off by the waters of the flood; never again shall there be a flood to destroy the earth.”
Genesis 9:12-17 NKJV “And God said: “This is the sign of the covenant which I make between Me and you, and every living creature that is with you, for perpetual generations: I set My rainbow in the cloud, and it shall be for the sign of the covenant between Me and the earth. It shall be, when I bring a cloud over the earth, that the rainbow shall be seen in the cloud; and I will remember My covenant which is between Me and you and every living creature of all flesh; the waters shall never again become a flood to destroy all flesh. The rainbow shall be in the cloud, and I will look on it to remember the everlasting covenant between God and every living creature of all flesh that is on the earth.” And God said to Noah, “This is the sign of the covenant which I have established between Me and all flesh that is on the earth.”
7. Game – Memory Verse Pass The Ball Relay
Everyone can play the game – need 2 teams of equal number of players.
“The rainbow shall be in the cloud, and I will look on it to remember the everlasting covenant between God and every living creature of all flesh that is on the earth.”
Genesis 9:16
Each team is to line up in a row. Hand a ball to the first person in each row. They are to pass the ball to the person behind them and so on. When the ball gets to the last person in each row they are to run to the front of the line and say the memory verse. Then they are to pass the ball to the person behind them and so on. When the original first person is back in the front of the line the game is over.
8. God’s Covenant With Abraham
God promised to make Abram’s descendants into a great and mighty nation. This promised was fulfilled in the birth of Isaac and then later Jacob, through whom the twelve tribes of Israel were born. The descendants of Abraham did indeed become great nations.
Genesis 12:2 NKJV “I will make you a great nation; I will bless you And make your name great; And you shall be a blessing.”
Genesis 13:14-18 NKJV “And the Lord said to Abram, after Lot had separated from him: “Lift your eyes now and look from the place where you are—northward, southward, eastward, and westward;
for all the land which you see I give to you and your descendants forever.
And I will make your descendants as the dust of the earth; so that if a man could number the dust of the earth, then your descendants also could be numbered.
Arise, walk in the land through its length and its width, for I give it to you.”
Then Abram moved his tent, and went and dwelt by the terebinth trees of Mamre, which are in Hebron, and built an altar there to the Lord.”
Genesis 15:18-21 NKJV “On the same day the Lord made a covenant with Abram, saying: “To your descendants I have given this land, from the river of Egypt to the great river, the River Euphrates—
the Kenites, the Kenezzites, the Kadmonites,
the Hittites, the Perizzites, the Rephaim,
the Amorites, the Canaanites, the Girgashites, and the Jebusites.”
In addition to becoming a great nation, God promised Abraham that “in you all the families of the earth shall be blessed.”
Genesis 12:3 NKJV ” I will bless those who bless you, And I will curse him who curses you; And in you all the families of the earth shall be blessed.”
God fulfilled this promise through the birth of Jesus Christ.
9. God’s Covenant With David
God promised David that he would have a son for whom He would establish a kingdom.
2 Samuel 7:1-16 NKJV “Now it came to pass when the king was dwelling in his house, and the Lord had given him rest from all his enemies all around,
that the king said to Nathan the prophet, “See now, I dwell in a house of cedar, but the ark of God dwells inside tent curtains.”
Then Nathan said to the king, “Go, do all that is in your heart, for the Lord is with you.”
But it happened that night that the word of the Lord came to Nathan, saying,
“Go and tell My servant David, ‘Thus says the Lord: “Would you build a house for Me to dwell in?
For I have not dwelt in a house since the time that I brought the children of Israel up from Egypt, even to this day, but have moved about in a tent and in a tabernacle.
Wherever I have moved about with all the children of Israel, have I ever spoken a word to anyone from the tribes of Israel, whom I commanded to shepherd My people Israel, saying, ‘Why have you not built Me a house of cedar?’”’
Now therefore, thus shall you say to My servant David, ‘Thus says the Lord of hosts: “I took you from the sheepfold, from following the sheep, to be ruler over My people, over Israel.
And I have been with you wherever you have gone, and have cut off all your enemies from before you, and have made you a great name, like the name of the great men who are on the earth.
Moreover I will appoint a place for My people Israel, and will plant them, that they may dwell in a place of their own and move no more; nor shall the sons of wickedness oppress them anymore, as previously,
since the time that I commanded judges to be over My people Israel, and have caused you to rest from all your enemies. Also the Lord tells you that He will make you a house.
“When your days are fulfilled and you rest with your fathers, I will set up your seed after you, who will come from your body, and I will establish his kingdom.
He shall build a house for My name, and I will establish the throne of his kingdom forever.
I will be his Father, and he shall be My son. If he commits iniquity, I will chasten him with the rod of men and with the blows of the sons of men.
But My mercy shall not depart from him, as I took it from Saul, whom I removed from before you.
And your house and your kingdom shall be established forever before you. Your throne shall be established forever.”’”
David’s descendants did not remain faithful to the provisions of the covenant. Despite their unfaithfulness, God remained faithful to His covenant and it’s ultimate – the Messiah.
Psalm 89:3-4 NKJV ““I have made a covenant with My chosen, I have sworn to My servant David:
‘Your seed I will establish forever, And build up your throne to all generations.’” Selah
Psalm 89: 34 NKJV “My covenant I will not break, Nor alter the word that has gone out of My lips.”
10. New Covenant Is Promised
A new covenant is promised in Jeremiah. The Israelites had continually broken the old covenant. Time and time again the people were called to repent, however they never truly had a lasting change of heart. Only God can change hearts and minds; thus a new covenant was needed.
Jeremiah 31:31-34 NKJV “Behold, the days are coming, says the Lord, when I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel and with the house of Judah—not according to the covenant that I made with their fathers in the day that I took them by the hand to lead them out of the land of Egypt, My covenant which they broke, though I was a husband to them, says the Lord.
But this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, says the Lord: I will put My law in their minds, and write it on their hearts; and I will be their God, and they shall be My people.
No more shall every man teach his neighbor, and every man his brother, saying, ‘Know the Lord,’ for they all shall know Me, from the least of them to the greatest of them, says the Lord. For I will forgive their iniquity, and their sin I will remember no more.”
Under the new covenant no one (priests or prophets) would stand between the people and God. Everyone would have access to God and the Spirit would teach the people the knowledge of God.
Hebrews 8:8-12 NKJV “Because finding fault with them, He says: “Behold, the days are coming, says the Lord, when I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel and with the house of Judah—
not according to the covenant that I made with their fathers in the day when I took them by the hand to lead them out of the land of Egypt; because they did not continue in My covenant, and I disregarded them, says the Lord.
For this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, says the Lord: I will put My laws in their mind and write them on their hearts; and I will be their God, and they shall be My people.
None of them shall teach his neighbor, and none his brother, saying, ‘Know the Lord,’ for all shall know Me, from the least of them to the greatest of them.
For I will be merciful to their unrighteousness, and their sins and their lawless deeds I will remember no more.”
11. Game – Covenant Memory Game
A covenant is an agreement made between two or more people that all promise not to break. Throughout the Bible we see several covenants that God made with man. God has always and will always keep His promises.
Need: Nine sheets of paper or index cards
Write the following on the paper or cards:
1. Noah
2. God promised that the entire earth would not be devastated by a flood again.
3. Abraham
4. God promised to make his descendants into a great and mighty nation
5. David
6. God promised him that he would have a son for whom He would establish a kingdom.
7. Jeremiah
8. A new covenant is promised.
9. A covenant is an agreement made between two or more people that all promise not to break
Shuffle up the cards and place them on the memory board.
Divide the children into two teams. The teams will take turns turning over two cards. If the cards match they will remove them and earn a point for their team. If they do not match they will turn them back over. The team with the most points at the end of the game is the winner.

12. New Covenant Is Fulfilled
Through His work on the cross, Jesus fulfilled Jeremiah’s prediction of the coming of a new covenant.
Luke 1:68-79 NKJV ““Blessed is the Lord God of Israel, For He has visited and redeemed His people,
And has raised up a horn of salvation for us In the house of His servant David,
As He spoke by the mouth of His holy prophets, Who have been since the world began,
That we should be saved from our enemies And from the hand of all who hate us,
To perform the mercy promised to our fathers And to remember His holy covenant,
The oath which He swore to our father Abraham:
To grant us that we, Being delivered from the hand of our enemies, Might serve Him without fear,
In holiness and righteousness before Him all the days of our life.
“And you, child, will be called the prophet of the Highest; For you will go before the face of the Lord to prepare His ways,
To give knowledge of salvation to His people By the remission of their sins,
Through the tender mercy of our God, With which the Dayspring from on high has visited us;
To give light to those who sit in darkness and the shadow of death, To guide our feet into the way of peace.”
There were several promises in the new covenant:
* God’s law will be written on believer’s hearts and minds, not on tablets of stone.
Hebrews 8:10 NKJV “For this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, says the Lord: I will put My laws in their mind and write them on their hearts; and I will be their God, and they shall be My people.”
Hebrews 10:16-17 NKJV ““This is the covenant that I will make with them after those days, says the Lord: I will put My laws into their hearts, and in their minds I will write them,”
then He adds, “Their sins and their lawless deeds I will remember no more”
* Believers will have a personal relationship with God.
Leviticus 26:12 NKJV “I will walk among you and be your God, and you shall be My people.”
2 Corinthians 6:16 NKJV “And what agreement has the temple of God with idols? For you are the temple of the living God. As God has said: “I will dwell in them And walk among them. I will be their God, And they shall be My people.”
* All will know God.
Hebrews 8:11 NKJV “None of them shall teach his neighbor, and none his brother, saying, ‘Know the Lord,’ for all shall know Me, from the least of them to the greatest of them”
* God will forgive the sins of repentant people and remember them no more. The continual sacrifice of animals for the atonement of sin will cease.
Hebrews 8:12 NKJV “For I will be merciful to their unrighteousness, and their sins and their lawless deeds I will remember no more”
Hebrews 10:17-18 NKJV “then He adds, “Their sins and their lawless deeds I will remember no more.”
Now where there is remission of these, there is no longer an offering for sin.”
* Man will be able to boldly enter the Holy of Holies.
Hebrew 10:19-22 NKJV “Therefore, brethren, having boldness to enter the Holiest by the blood of Jesus,
by a new and living way which He consecrated for us, through the veil, that is, His flesh,
and having a High Priest over the house of God,
let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled from an evil conscience and our bodies washed with pure water.”
13. New Covenant Is Made Valid By Christ’s Blood
Hebrews 9:11-23 NKJV “But Christ came as High Priest of the good things to come, with the greater and more perfect tabernacle not made with hands, that is, not of this creation.
Not with the blood of goats and calves, but with His own blood He entered the Most Holy Place once for all, having obtained eternal redemption.
For if the blood of bulls and goats and the ashes of a heifer, sprinkling the unclean, sanctifies for the purifying of the flesh,
how much more shall the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered Himself without spot to God, cleanse your conscience from dead works to serve the living God?
And for this reason He is the Mediator of the new covenant, by means of death, for the redemption of the transgressions under the first covenant, that those who are called may receive the promise of the eternal inheritance.
For where there is a testament, there must also of necessity be the death of the testator.
For a testament is in force after men are dead, since it has no power at all while the testator lives.
Therefore not even the first covenant was dedicated without blood.
For when Moses had spoken every precept to all the people according to the law, he took the blood of calves and goats, with water, scarlet wool, and hyssop, and sprinkled both the book itself and all the people,
saying, “This is the blood of the covenant which God has commanded you.”
Then likewise he sprinkled with blood both the tabernacle and all the vessels of the ministry.
And according to the law almost all things are purified with blood, and without shedding of blood there is no remission.
Therefore it was necessary that the copies of the things in the heavens should be purified with these, but the heavenly things themselves with better sacrifices than these.”
14. New Covenant Is Remembered in the Lord’s Supper
Luke 22:19-22 NKJV “And He took bread, gave thanks and broke it, and gave it to them, saying, “This is My body which is given for you; do this in remembrance of Me.”
Likewise He also took the cup after supper, saying, “This cup is the new covenant in My blood, which is shed for you.
But behold, the hand of My betrayer is with Me on the table.
And truly the Son of Man goes as it has been determined, but woe to that man by whom He is betrayed!”
1 Corinthians 11:23-26 NKJV “For I received from the Lord that which I also delivered to you: that the Lord Jesus on the same night in which He was betrayed took bread;
and when He had given thanks, He broke it and said, “Take, eat; this is My body which is broken for you; do this in remembrance of Me.”
In the same manner He also took the cup after supper, saying, “This cup is the new covenant in My blood. This do, as often as you drink it, in remembrance of Me.”
For as often as you eat this bread and drink this cup, you proclaim the Lord’s death till He comes.
15. New Covenant Is Everlasting
Hebrews 13:20-21 NKJV “Now may the God of peace who brought up our Lord Jesus from the dead, that great Shepherd of the sheep, through the blood of the everlasting covenant,
make you complete in every good work to do His will, working in you what is well pleasing in His sight, through Jesus Christ, to whom be glory forever and ever. Amen.”
16. Game – Marshmallow Pass
Need:
chopsticks (or two12 inch dowel rods) – each child will need a set
2 bags of marshmallows
2 large bowls
Divide the children into two teams. Line the two teams up in two rows. Give each child a pair of chop sticks (or two dowel rods). Give the first person on the team a bag of marshmallows. Place an empty bowl at the end of each row. The marshmallows are to be passed from the front of the line to the back and placed in the bowl only using the chop sticks.

18. Challenge and Altar Call
We can follow Noah’s example of obedience, devotion and thankfulness to God. Noah was so thankful that God had provided protection and provisions for his family that he gave an offering to God. He made a vow or a promise to God – He promised that he would obey God and do whatever God wanted him to do.
Because Noah made a promise to God, God made a promise back to him.
God takes promises very serious and so should we. Everything He has promised us, He will do. We can take comfort in knowing that He will be with us no matter where we go or what we go through.
Each one of us should let the wonders of God’s creation, including the rainbow, encourage us to speak about Him to those who doubt His existence and the promises that He has made to us.
