Great Commission

Before Jesus returned to heaven, He gave His followers some very important instructions. They were to reach other people for Him, for the kingdom of God. These instructions are sometimes referred to as the Great Commission.

Matthew 28:18-20 NKJV

“And Jesus came and spoke to them, saying, “All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth. Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” Amen.”

Mark 16:15 NKJV

“And He said to them, “Go into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature.”

Luke 24:47 NKJV

“and that repentance and remission of sins should be preached in His name to all nations, beginning at Jerusalem.”

Meeting People’s Needs

It is the responsibility of every follower to share the good news, the gospel of Jesus Christ. Many times in order to reach people for Jesus Christ you must first meet their physical need.

Some needs that people have are:

Food and water

Clothing

Shelter – some place to live

School

Orphanages

Medical needs

Other needs may include:

Something to play with (children need toys)

School supplies

A place to worship

Bible and /or Bible materials

Jesus Met People’s Needs

In the Bible when people came to Jesus, He always met their physical, emotional, and spiritual needs.

Matthew 25:35-40 NKJV

“for I was hungry and you gave Me food; I was thirsty and you gave Me drink; I was a stranger and you took Me in; I was naked and you clothed Me; I was sick and you visited Me; I was in prison and you came to Me.’ “Then the righteous will answer Him, saying, ‘Lord, when did we see You hungry and feed You, or thirsty and give You drink? When did we see You a stranger and take You in, or naked and clothe You? Or when did we see You sick, or in prison, and come to You?’ And the King will answer and say to them, ‘Assuredly, I say to you, inasmuch as you did it to one of the least of these My brethren, you did it to Me.”

Heart Of Love

Everything you do for others must be done out of a heart of love, no matter what you are doing.

Colossians 3:12-14 NKJV

“Therefore, as the elect of God, holy and beloved, put on tender mercies, kindness, humility, meekness, longsuffering, bearing with one another, and forgiving one another; even as Christ forgave you, so you also must do. But above all these things put on love, which is the bond of perfection.”

When you help others out of love, you are helping Jesus.
