Romans 8:6-8

Philippians 4:6-7

John 13:35

Believers must keep their minds healthy. The mind can be described as the part of us that thinks, feels, and figures things out.

Our brains are a big part of our thinking process. They are fed by blood vessels. Regular exercise will help our brains function better because they will be getting plenty of blood carrying oxygen pumped through them. Also, getting a good night’s sleep helps to keep your brain thinking clearly. It needs rest so it can work at its best when you are awake.

Another part of your mind is thinking and figuring things out, which can be a part of choosing right from wrong. God has given man a conscience and He has given us the Holy Spirit to help in this area. The Holy Spirit reveals truth to us and convicts us of sin. The Holy Spirit, prayer and Bible reading will all help us make good decisions.

John 16:5-14 NKJV

“But now I go away to Him who sent Me, and none of you asks Me, ‘Where are You going?’
But because I have said these things to you, sorrow has filled your heart.
Nevertheless I tell you the truth. It is to your advantage that I go away; for if I do not go away, the Helper will not come to you; but if I depart, I will send Him to you.
And when He has come, He will convict the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment:
of sin, because they do not believe in Me;
of righteousness, because I go to My Father and you see Me no more;
of judgment, because the ruler of this world is judged.
“I still have many things to say to you, but you cannot bear them now.
However, when He, the Spirit of truth, has come, He will guide you into all truth; for He will not speak on His own authority, but whatever He hears He will speak; and He will tell you things to come.
He will glorify Me, for He will take of what is Mine and declare it to you”

Keeping our minds healthy glorifies God, but it takes commitment. It doesn’t just happen. We do not want a carnal mind therefore we need to be careful about what we read, what we watch on TV, the type of music we listen to, the type of friends we have, and the things we choose to talk about because all these things have an effect on our mind.

Romans 8:6-8 NKJV

“For to be carnally minded is death, but to be spiritually minded is life and peace.
Because the carnal mind is enmity against God; for it is not subject to the law of God, nor indeed can be.
So then, those who are in the flesh cannot please God.”

Peace is very important to our spiritual health. Believers can have peace knowing God loves them and has a plan for their lives.

Philippians 4:6-7 NKJV

“Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.”

Feeding ourselves spiritually is important to our spiritual health also. Reading and studying the Bible helps us learn who God is and what He expects from us. The Bible is a letter to us from God. It helps us to know Him better and grow in Christ. As we grow in our relationship with Christ, and our knowledge of Him and His ways, we will have a greater desire to show God’s love to those around us.

John 13:35 NKJV

“By this all will know that you are My disciples, if you have love for one another.”

Showing God’s love through things we do for others will help us to stay spiritually active and healthy.
