FROM THE INSIDE OUT

Memory Verse: 1 Peter 3:3-4

Life Application: God is concerned with the hidden person of the heart.

Bible Text:

1 Peter 3:3-4

1 Timothy 2:8-10

1 Peter 3:3-4

Proverbs 31:30

Proverbs 11:22

God is concerned with the hidden person of the heart – what flows out of your heart. Therefore, believers are to spend more time developing their inner character than attempting to make themselves look beautiful on the outside.

1 Peter 3:3-4 NKJV

“Do not let your adornment be merely outward – arranging the hair, wearing gold, or putting on fine apparel – rather let it be the hidden person of the heart…”

1 Timothy 2:8-10 NKJV

“I desire therefore that the men pray everywhere lifting up holy hands, without wrath and doubting; in like manner also, that the women adorn themselves in modest apparel, with propriety and moderation, not with braded hair or gold or pearls or costly clothing, but which is proper for women professing godliness, with good works.”

The Bible does not condemn women who wear jewelry or fix their hair or wear nice clothes. It only emphasizes that we should be more concerned with what God thinks about us than what man thinks about us. Since God places a greater emphasis on our inside (our heart) than He does on our outside, shouldn’t we spend more time on it?

From Inside Should Flow A Gentle And Quiet Spirit

Gentle means not severe, rough, or violent; mild; soft; not harsh or extreme; moderate; kindly; friendly; having or showing good manners; refined; polite; treat in a soothing way; being pleasant or pleasing.

A woman that is gentle will be soft, tender, calm, kind, patient and humble. She will not be harsh, rough, violent or have bad manners.

1 Peter 3:3-4 NKJV

“Do not let your adornment be merely outward – arranging the hair, wearing gold, or putting on fine apparel – rather let it be the hidden person of the heart, with the incorruptible beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is very precious in the sight of God.”

From the Inside Should Flow The Fear Of The Lord

Fear of the Lord is respect and reverence to God and the things of God. When we respect God we will hold Him (His thoughts, His Word, and His desires) in high regard. Respect will cause you to give honor to whom it is due therefore, if we respect God we will give Him the honor that is due unto Him. We show respect by (and through) our actions, thoughts and words. Respect for God will also cause you to esteem Him (to think highly of).

When we have a reverence toward God we have a feeling of deep respect, mixed with wonder, awe, and love toward Him.

Proverbs 31:30 NKJV

“Charm is deceitful and beauty is passing,

But a woman who fears the Lord, she shall be praise.”

Charm is not always what it seems to be – it has a tendency to mislead, and beauty will not be with a person forever. After awhile people who once had charm and beauty will cease to be praise by men.

A woman who fears the Lord will by praised forever by man and by God. Praise means to say that a thing or a person is good. Praise is also words that tell the worth or value of a thing or person, a commendation, an expression of approval, admiration of (to admire – to look on with pleasure).

In the eyes of God a woman who fears the Lord is good, valuable, approved of, and looked upon with pleasure by God.

From The Inside Should Flow Discretion

Discretion is great carefulness in speech or action; good judgment; wise caution. A woman who lack discretion (no matter how lovely or beautiful she is on the outside) is compared to a pig with a golden ring in its nose. A gold ring would be ridiculous on the nose of a pig.

Proverbs 11:22 NKJV

“As a ring of gold in a swine’s snout,

So is a lovely woman who lacks discretion.”
