Physically, Mentally, and Spiritually Healthy

Memory Verse: 3 John 2

Life Application: God wants me to prosper physically, mentally, and spiritually.

 

Bible Text:

3 John 2

Genesis 1:26-27

Philippians 4:6-7

It is God’s desire that we be healthy – physically, mentally, and spiritually. He wants us to flourish in all areas of our health.

3 John 2 NKJV

“Beloved, I pray that you may prosper in all things and be in health, just as your soul prospers.”

There are so many people that are in need in the world today and the only way that we can be Jesus’ hands and feet is to be healthy enough to do what He has called us to do.

Physically Healthy

We are created in God’s likeness. God gave us the bodies that we have. That means we are very special to God. Therefore we should do everything we can to take care of our bodies.

Genesis 1:26-27 NKJV

“Then God said, “Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness; let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over the cattle, over all the earth and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth.” So God created man in His own image; in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them.”

Our bodies are special and need to get the right amounts of certain things so they work right.

 

Our bodies need:

1. The right kinds of food – Food is our bodies fuel.

2. Lots of water. Water helps to keep our bodies cool and hydrated. We need water to help keep toxins flushed out of our bodies.

3. The right amount of sleep. Sleep is very important because our bodies only grow and heal while we are asleep.

4. To be kept clean. Germs can grow in the dirt and sweat we get on our bodies.

Mentally Healthy

Our mind is the seat of thought and memory. It is the center of consciousness that generates thoughts, feelings, ideas, and perceptions, and stores knowledge and memories.

 

Things that help us mentally are:

Exercise so that the brain has the proper oxygen.

Proper rest / sleep

Thinking about positive and godly things.

A relationship with Jesus.

Spending time in God’s Word – reading the Bible.

Praying – talking and listening to God.

Being careful about what we allow into our minds.

Spiritually Healthy

Being restful and peaceful is important to our spiritual health. We can have a peace that passes all understanding when we have a relationship with God. He is our Father and we must trust Him to care for our needs.

Philippians 4:6-7 NKJV

“Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.”

We may not always understand everything we go through. It is in these times that we must not rely on our own understanding. Believers need a healthy, balanced spiritual diet. Their spiritual diet should include reading and digesting the Bible, God’s Word every day. We also grow stronger spiritually by developing friendships with other Christians. Believers must also stay spiritually active demonstrating God’s love through things they do and say.
