Saving Light – Eighth Night

8

The ultimate goal and purpose of creation was that the divine light would shine throughout the world, transforming everything, even darkness itself

Genesis 1:1-4  NKJV

“In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. The earth was without form, and void; and darkness was on the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God was hovering over the face of the waters. Then God said, “Let there be light”; and there was light. And God saw the light, that it was good; and God divided the light from the darkness.”

.

.

Genesis 1:16-18  NKJV

“Then God made two great lights: the greater light to rule the day, and the lesser light to rule the night. He made the stars also. God set them in the firmament of the heavens to give light on the earth, and to rule over the day and over the night, and to divide the light from the darkness. And God saw that it was good.”

.

.

God has always divided the light from the dark. Just as the natural light was separated from the dark, one day  God will separate the spiritual light from the spiritual dark.

Matthew 25:31-34  NKJV

“When the Son of Man comes in His glory, and all the holy angels with Him, then He will sit on the throne of His glory. All the nations will be gathered before Him, and He will separate them one from another, as a shepherd divides his sheep from the goats. And He will set the sheep on His right hand, but the goats on the left. Then the King will say to those on His right hand, ‘Come, you blessed of My Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world.”

.

.

It is God’s desire for everyone inherit the kingdom that He has prepared for man. He even gave His own Son as the sacrifice for our sin. Some will accept Jesus as their Lord and Savior, and some will not.

Romans 5:8  NKJV

But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us”

.

.

2 Corinthians 2:4  NKJV

“For it is the God who commanded light to shine out of darkness, who has shone in our hearts to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ.”

.

.

Dear Father,

Thank-you for the divine light that shines throughout the world. By the power of the Holy Spirit, transform me into a child of light. Thank-you for demonstrating Your love toward me and for Jesus’ sacrifice for my sin. Forgive me and cleanse me from all unrighteousness.

In Jesus’ name, Amen.

The Lord Is Our Light – Seventh Night

7

Psalm 27:1  NKJV

“The Lord is my light and my salvation’ Whom shall I fear? The Lord is the strength of my life; Of whom shall I be afraid?”

Jesus, our Lord, delivers us from darkness through His saving light (salvation). We have been delivered from our enemy, Satan. Since Jesus is our deliver we should not be afraid of or fear anyone.

Psalm 118:14  NKJV

“The Lord is my strength and song,

And He has become my salvation”

No matter what is going on around us or what we are going through we can rest assured that the Lord will deliver us.

Micah 7:8  NKJV

“Do not rejoice over me, my enemy; When I fall, I will arise; When I sit in darkness,

The Lord will be a light to me.”

.

.

.

Dear Father,

Thank-you for Your Son, Jesus, who has delivered me from darkness into Your marvelous light. Thank-you for always being with me, You are my light and my salvation. There is nothing to fear because You surround me with Your presence, love and mercy. No matter what is going on around me or I have the promise that You will deliver me.

In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Let Your Light Shine – Sixth Night

6

Philippians 2:14-15  NKJV

“Do all things without complaining and disputing, hat you may become blameless and harmless, children of God without fault in the midst of a crooked and perverse generation, among whom you shine as lights in the world…”

Believers have been called to shine as lights. Just as the moon has no light except that from the sun, we have no light except from Jesus. We are to be the reflective light of Jesus Christ, the Light of the World.

Daniel 12:3  NKJV

“Those who are wise shall shine

Like the brightness of the firmament,

And those who turn many to righteousness

Like the stars forever and ever.”

Since we only have the light of Jesus, and no light of our own, we must be very wise and careful to make sure that nothing comes between us and Jesus. We don’t want anything or anyone to block the light of Jesus shining in and through us. We will turn people to righteousness as long as we reflect Jesus.

.

.

.

Dear Father,

By the power of the Holy Spirit, help me to shine as a light in the midst of this generation. May I not complain or argue. Help me to be blameless and harmless in everything I say and do. Cause my life of worship to You to turn many to righteousness.

In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Let Others See Your Light – Fifth Night

 5

Luke 11: 33  NKJV

“No one, when he has lit a lamp, puts it in a secret place or under a basket, but on a lampstand, that those who come in may see the light.”

We are not to hide the light of Jesus Christ in us or keep it to ourselves (don‘t be stingy). As followers of Jesus, we are to take the light placed within us and share it with others.

Matthew 5:14-16  NKJV

“You are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hidden. Nor do they light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a lampstand, and it gives light to all who are in the house. Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven.”

Everything we do and say should point people to God. When people look at us they should not see us, instead they should see the nature of Jesus in us. There are people watching each and everyone of us. Just as the heavenly bodies shine forth in brightness against the blackness of the night, so the lives of true believers lighten the darkness of the world. We are to shine as lights to both the lost and the saved.

.

.

.

Dear Father,

By the power of the Holy Spirit, help me to let the light that You have placed within me to shine. Don’t allow me to hide the light of Jesus Christ in me or keep it to myself. May I always share it with those around me.

In Jesus’ name, Amen

Let There Be Light – Fourth Night

21

Genesis 1:3-5  NKJV

“In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. The earth was without form, and void; and darkness was on the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God was hovering over the face of the waters. Then God said, ‘Let there be light’; and there was light.  And God saw the light, that it was good; and God called the light Day, and the darkness He called Night. So the evening and the morning were the first day.”

In the beginning God fashioned everything anew. He changed disorder into order, and emptiness into fullness. The heavens and the earth were recreated. What was void, empty, and dark (evil) became full and full of light. Just by His words, God gave the world physical light. God declared that the light He had created was good, then He named the light and dark. By naming them, God showed He was Lord over them and that He had power over them.

The very darkness was transformed by the light that God created. He desired for the light to shine throughout the world, transforming everything. His light exposed and revealed everything.

Mark 4:21:22

Also He said to them, “Is a lamp brought to be put under a basket or under a bed? Is it not to be set on a lampstand? For there is nothing hidden which will not be revealed, nor has anything been kept secret but that it should come to light”

..

Dear Father,

I recognize that it was You who, just by Your words, gave us light. You, O Lord, hold all power, even over the light and dark. You can change disorder into order, and emptiness into fullness. You alone can cause the void, empty, and darkness to became full of light. By the power of the Holy Spirit help me to separate ourselves from spiritual darkness. May I be transformed by Your light. Cause me to shine throughout the world bringing glory to You.

In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Jesus Is The Light – Third Night

Jesus Is The Light  – Third Night

John 8:12  NKJV     “Then Jesus spoke to them again, saying, ‘I am the light of the world. He who follows Me shall not walk in darkness, but have the light of life.”

John 1:1- 5 NKJV     “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. All things were made through Him, and without Him nothing was made that was made. In Him was life, and the life was the light of men. And the light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not comprehend it.”

Jesus is our light. He entered this world to give it spiritual light. As the Light of the World Jesus exposes sin and bad habits. He also gives enables us to see clearly (gives sight) and shows us the way that we should go. It is not God’s desire that we walk in spiritual darkness.

John 12:46   NKJV     “I have come as a light into the world, that whoever believes in Me should not abide in darkness.”

In the New Jerusalem there will not be a need for the sun or moon to shine. The light will come from the glory of God and from Jesus Christ, the Lamb.

Revelation 21:23-24  NKJV     “The city has no need of the sun or the moon to shine in it, for the glory of God will illuminated it. The Lamb is the light. And the nations of those who are saved shall walk in its light, and the kings of the earth bring their glory and honor into it.”

Father,    I thank-you for Your Word, Jesus Christ, and Your promises. As I follow Jesus, the Light of the World I will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life. All things were made through the Word, and without Him nothing was made. In Him alone is life. Jesus is my light. He enables me to see clearly and shows me the way that I should go. Because of Him I do not abide in darkness.          In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Illumination

Hanukkah Devotions / Book 1

What Is Hanukkah – Hanukkah, also known as the Feast of Dedication or the Festival of Lights, is an annual festival celebrated on eight successive days to honor the restoration of divine (true, Holy) worship in the temple after it had been defiled by heathens (162/163 BC). The restoration occurred in 165 BC. Hanukkah occurs on the twenty-fifth day of Kislev. Kislev is the third month in the Jewish calendar.

Hanukkah Celebrations  – Today people celebrate Hanukkah  in many ways. Some, but not all, are:

* Having festive meals for eight days

* Lighting candles in the menorah

* A devotion is read each night of Hanukkah

* Songs are sung in remembrance of miracles and redemption

* Praises are read from Psalms 115-118

* Giving gifts and/or money to loved ones and to the needy

* Children play a game called “Spinning The Dreidel”

* Foods with a lot of oil are cooked

The Servant  – The center candle on the menorah is called the servant candle. It is used to light all the other candles in the menorah. It represents Jesus. He humbled Himself and left His place in glory to come to this world. He is the Light Of This World. It is only through His light that we have light.

God’s Word Is A Lamp – Second Night

God’s Word Is A Lamp – Second Night

Psalm 119:105  NKJV     “Your word is a lamp to my feet

And a light to my path”

God’s Word is a guide book for living. It gives us understanding and guidance. God’s Word, the Bible, enables us to see the path that we are on as well as the path that we should be on. It shows us all that is in store for us as well as the pitfalls and snares that the enemy tries to place in our path.

Proverbs 6:23  NKJV     “For the commandment is a lamp,

And the law a light; Reproofs of instruction  are the way of life”

God’s Word should be our constant companion, always in our minds and hearts giving instructions and directions. When we are not living up to God’s standards the Bible will shine a light on were we need to change. Even when it gives us words of rebuke it shows us how to change and offers words of hope, encouragement and love.

Father,      Thank-you for Your Word. It is my guide and gives me understanding. Your Word lights my path. It gives me words of hope, encouragement and love.     In Jesus’ name, Amen.

God‘s Light Has Shone In Our Hearts – First Night

God‘s Light Has Shone In Our Hearts – First Night

2 Corinthians 4:6  NKJV     “For it is God who commanded light to shine out of darkness, who has shone in our hearts to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ.

God gave light to the world at the beginning, at creation,  when He commanded it to be so. God also gives light to a person’s heart that they may “see” who Jesus is. Satan does not want you to “see” and believe in Jesus so he will do anything that he can to blind you to the light. The truths in the Bible will light, point to, and direct us to the source of all truth and life, Jesus Christ.

Dear Father,     Thank-you for the light that You gave to the world. We especially thank-you for the light that You give to a person’s heart that they may “see” who Jesus is. Help us by the power of the Holy Spirit to be aware of the tactics that Satan uses in an attempt to blind us from the true  light. Fill us with a desire to seek out Your truths from Your Word.

In Jesus’ name, Amen
