Review and Reflections
1. Read Joshua 3:1-4:24. When the people saw the ark of the covenant, and the priests, the Levites, bearing it, they were to do what?
How far were they to stay away from the ark of the covenant?
What were the people told would happen when the soles of the feet of the priests who bear the ark of covenant rested in the waters of the Jordan?
The priests who bore the ark of the covenant of the Lord stood firm on dry ground in the midst of the Jordan and all Israel crossed over on ___________ _________________.
Twelve men from the people, one man from every tribe, were to take twelve stones from the place where the priests’ feet stood firm. What were they to do with these stones?
2. Read Luke 14:7-14. Jesus told a _____________ to those who were invited, when He saw how they chose the best places to sit.
Whoever exalts himself will be _______________, and he who humbles himself will be exalted.
When you give a dinner or a supper, do not ask your friends, your brothers, your relatives, nor rich neighbors, lest they invite you back, and you be repaid. Who did Jesus say to invite instead?
3. Read Luke 14:15-24. These verses describe the parable of the Great _________________.
In the parable a man gave a great supper and invited many, however they did not come. What excuses did they give?
The servant reported these things to his master. Then the master of the house, being angry, said to his servant, ‘Go out quickly into the streets and lanes of the city, and bring in here the poor and the maimed and the lame and the blind.’ How does this apply to your life?
God desires for us to go out into the highways and hedges, and _________________ them to come in, that His house may be filled.
What does compel mean?
If we are to compel people to come to God’s house or His kingdom, we must use every resource given to us. What has God given you that you can use to compel people to come to Him?
4. Read Luke 14:25-35. When Jesus was speaking in these verses He was really telling them that if you want to follow Him you must forsake all. Forsake can be described as to withdraw support from somebody, or to sacrifice something that gives pleasure. As a disciple of Christ a person must turn to Him for _____________________ and they must put His pleasure (His desires) above their own.
What does “bear your cross” mean?
5. Read Proverbs 12:27-28. What does diligence mean?
Persistent and hard-working effort is a precious __________________________.
Dear Father,
Thank-you for restoring and filling me with new strength. When I call out to You, You hear my voice and bring peace and renewal. May You bless me and cause Your face to shine upon me. By the power of the Holy Spirit, may the things that I set my hands to do prosper and bring glory to You.
In Jesus’ name, Amen.
