4. Memory Verse

Matthew 26:16 NKJV

“So from that time he sought opportunity to betray Him.”

5. The Plot Against Jesus

Jesus had ministered for 3 years and He had made several enemies among the Jewish leaders. They did not believe that He was the Son of God. They wanted Him killed, so they plotted how they could do it without turning the people against them. One of Jesus’ disciples, Judas, agreed to point Jesus out to them.

Matthew 26:36-47 NKJV

“Then Jesus came with them to a place called Gethsemane, and said to the disciples, “Sit here while I go and pray over there.” And He took with Him Peter and the two sons of Zebedee, and He began to be sorrowful and deeply distressed.
Then He said to them, “My soul is exceedingly sorrowful, even to death. Stay here and watch with Me.” He went a little farther and fell on His face, and prayed, saying, “O My Father, if it is possible, let this cup pass from Me; nevertheless, not as I will, but as You will.” Then He came to the disciples and found them sleeping, and said to Peter, “What! Could you not watch with Me one hour? Watch and pray, lest you enter into temptation. The spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak.”
Again, a second time, He went away and prayed, saying, “O My Father, if this cup cannot pass away from Me unless I drink it, Your will be done.” And He came and found them asleep again, for their eyes were heavy. So He left them, went away again, and prayed the third time, saying the same words. Then He came to His disciples and said to them, “Are you still sleeping and resting? Behold, the hour is at hand, and the Son of Man is being betrayed into the hands of sinners.
Rise, let us be going. See, My betrayer is at hand.” And while He was still speaking, behold, Judas, one of the twelve, with a great multitude with swords and clubs, came from the chief priests and elders of the people.”

In the pre-dawn hours of Friday morning, while Jesus was in the Garden, Judas lead a group of soldiers to Jesus and the disciples. Judas knew that he would find Jesus there. Judas went up to Jesus and kissed Him – Judas had told the religious leaders that the one he kissed would be Jesus.

Matthew 26:48-50 NKJV

“Now His betrayer had given them a sign, saying, “Whomever I kiss, He is the One; seize Him.”
Immediately he went up to Jesus and said, “Greetings, Rabbi!” and kissed Him. But Jesus said to him, “Friend, why have you come?” Then they came and laid hands on Jesus and took Him.”

7. Jesus’ Arrest In The Garden

When Judas lead a crowd of armed men to Jesus, Peter attempted to defend Jesus. In the process he cut off the ear of the high priest’s servant with a sword, but Jesus rebuked him.

Matthew 26:51-54 NKJV

“And suddenly, one of those who were with Jesus stretched out his hand and drew his sword, struck the servant of the high priest, and cut off his ear. But Jesus said to him, “Put your sword in its place, for all who take the sword will perish by the sword. Or do you think that I cannot now pray to My Father, and He will provide Me with more than twelve legions of angels? How then could the Scriptures be fulfilled, that it must happen thus?” In that hour Jesus said to the multitudes, “Have you come out, as against a robber, with swords and clubs to take Me? I sat daily with you, teaching in the temple, and you did not seize Me. But all this was done that the Scriptures of the prophets might be fulfilled.” Then all the disciples forsook Him and fled.”

Jesus could have called for a army of angels to defend Him, but Jesus understood that what He was going through was God’s will and that He was fulfilling the Scriptures.

8. Game – Coin Toss

Judas betrayed Jesus for thirty pieces of silver.

Matthew 26:14-15 NKJV

“Then one of the twelve, called Judas Iscariot, went to the chief priests
and said, “What are you willing to give me if I deliver Him to you?” And they counted out to him thirty pieces of silver.”

Matthew 27:9 NKJV

“Then was fulfilled what was spoken by Jeremiah the prophet, saying, “And they took the thirty pieces of silver, the value of Him who was priced, whom they of the children of Israel priced,
and gave them for the potter’s field, as the Lord directed me.”

Need:

60 coins

2 cups

2 teams

Divide children into 2 teams. Give each team 30 coins (Each teams coins should be identical). They will take turn tossing their coins. The team that get the most coins in their cup is the winner.

9. Annas and Caiaphas

The soldiers arrested Jesus and He was charged with blasphemy. First Jesus was taken to Annas, then He was led to the high priest Caiaphas, and the Sanhedrin. They wanted Jesus killed, but according to their religious laws they could not do it personally, so they sent Jesus to Pontius Pilate. Caiaphas, and the Sanhedrin arranged for false witnesses to testify against Jesus, hoping that Pontius Pilate would have Jesus crucified.

Matthew 26:57-65 NKJV

“And those who had laid hold of Jesus led Him away to Caiaphas the high priest, where the scribes and the elders were assembled. But Peter followed Him at a distance to the high priest’s courtyard. And he went in and sat with the servants to see the end. Now the chief priest, the elders, and all the council sought false testimony against Jesus to put Him to death,
but found none. Even though many false witnesses came forward, they found none. But at last two false witnesses came forward and said, “This fellow said, ‘I am able to destroy the temple of God and to build it in three days.’” And the high priest arose and said to Him, “Do You answer nothing? What is it these men testify against You?” But Jesus kept silent. And the high priest answered and said to Him, “I put You under oath by the living God: Tell us if You are the Christ, the Son of God!” Jesus said to him, “It is as you said. Nevertheless, I say to you, hereafter you will see the Son of Man sitting at the right hand of the Power, and coming on the clouds of heaven.” Then the high priest tore his clothes, saying, “He has spoken blasphemy! What further need do we have of witnesses? Look, now you have heard His blasphemy! What do you think?” They answered and said, “He is deserving of death.” Then they spat in His face and beat Him; and others struck Him with the palms of their hands, saying, “Prophesy to us, Christ! Who is the one who struck You?”

10. Game – Working Together

Need: several inflated balloons, a sign that reads, “Jesus has called us to work together.”

Place the sign a short distance from both teams. Divide the children into two groups and have them line up in two lines. The children will team up into pairs in each group. The leader will place a balloon between the backs of the first pair on each team. At the signal they will walk or run to the sign and say “Jesus has called us to work together.” They will then return to their team and place the balloon between the backs of the next pair on their team. They will repeat what the first pair did. The team that finishes first is the winner.

11. Pontius Pilate and Herod

Pontius Pilate questioned Jesus then had Jesus sent to Herod. Herod and his men mocked Jesus then sent Him back to Pontius Pilate. Once again Pontius Pilate questioned Jesus again and found no fault in Him. He wanted to have Jesus whipped then released. However, the religious leaders and the crowd began to cry out, “Crucify Him!”. In the end, Pontius Pilate sentenced Jesus to death.

Matthew 27:1-2 NKJV

“ When morning came, all the chief priests and elders of the people plotted against Jesus to put Him to death. And when they had bound Him, they led Him away and delivered Him to Pontius Pilate the governor.”

Luke 23:1- 16 NKJV

Then the whole multitude of them arose and led Him to Pilate. And they began to accuse Him, saying, “We found this fellow perverting the nation, and forbidding to pay taxes to Caesar, saying that He Himself is Christ, a King.” Then Pilate asked Him, saying, “Are You the King of the Jews?” He answered him and said, “It is as you say.” So Pilate said to the chief priests and the crowd, “I find no fault in this Man.” But they were the more fierce, saying, “He stirs up the people, teaching throughout all Judea, beginning from Galilee to this place.” When Pilate heard of Galilee, he asked if the Man were a Galilean. And as soon as he knew that He belonged to Herod’s jurisdiction, he sent Him to Herod, who was also in Jerusalem at that time. Now when Herod saw Jesus, he was exceedingly glad; for he had desired for a long time to see Him, because he had heard many things about Him, and he hoped to see some miracle done by Him. Then he questioned Him with many words, but He answered him nothing. And the chief priests and scribes stood and vehemently accused Him. Then Herod, with his men of war, treated Him with contempt and mocked Him, arrayed Him in a gorgeous robe, and sent Him back to Pilate. That very day Pilate and Herod became friends with each other, for previously they had been at enmity with each other. Then Pilate, when he had called together the chief priests, the rulers, and the people, said to them, “You have brought this Man to me, as one who misleads the people. And indeed, having examined Him in your presence, I have found no fault in this Man concerning those things of which you accuse Him; no, neither did Herod, for I sent you back to him; and indeed nothing deserving of death has been done by Him. I will therefore chastise Him and release Him”

Matthew 27:11- NKJV

“Now Jesus stood before the governor. And the governor asked Him, saying, “Are You the King of the Jews?” Jesus said to him, “It is as you say.” And while He was being accused by the chief priests and elders, He answered nothing.
Then Pilate said to Him, “Do You not hear how many things they testify against You?” But He answered him not one word, so that the governor marveled greatly. Now at the feast the governor was accustomed to releasing to the multitude one prisoner whom they wished. And at that time they had a notorious prisoner called Barabbas. Therefore, when they had gathered together, Pilate said to them, “Whom do you want me to release to you? Barabbas, or Jesus who is called Christ?” For he knew that they had handed Him over because of envy. While he was sitting on the judgment seat, his wife sent to him, saying, “Have nothing to do with that just Man, for I have suffered many things today in a dream because of Him.” But the chief priests and elders persuaded the multitudes that they should ask for Barabbas and destroy Jesus. The governor answered and said to them, “Which of the two do you want me to release to you?” They said, “Barabbas!” Pilate said to them, “What then shall I do with Jesus who is called Christ?” They all said to him, “Let Him be crucified!” Then the governor said, “Why, what evil has He done?” But they cried out all the more, saying, “Let Him be crucified!”
When Pilate saw that he could not prevail at all, but rather that a tumult was rising, he took water and washed his hands before the multitude, saying, “I am innocent of the blood of this just Person. You see to it.” And all the people answered and said, “His blood be on us and on our children.” Then he released Barabbas to them; and when he had scourged Jesus, he delivered Him to be crucified.”

Hannah

Bible Text:

1 Samuel 1:1-20

1 Samuel 1:1- 4 NKJV

“Now there was a certain man of Ramathaim Zophim, of the mountains of Ephraim, and his name was Elkanah the son of Jeroham, the son of Elihu, the son of Tohu, the son of Zuph, an Ephraimite. And he had two wives: the name of one was Hannah, and the name of the other Peninnah. Peninnah had children, but Hannah had no children. This man went up from his city yearly to worship and sacrifice to the Lord of hosts in Shiloh. Also the two sons of Eli, Hophni and Phinehas, the priests of the Lord, were there. And whenever the time came for Elkanah to make an offering, he would give portions to Peninnah his wife and to all her sons and daughters.”

Hannah, one of two wives of Elkanah, had no children, although she had been married for some time. Elkanah’s other wife, Peninnah, had children.
Each year the family would faithfully go to Shiloh and worship and offer a sacrifice to God. Elkanah loved Hannah very much, even though she did not have any children. Elkanah treated Hannah very kindly and special. He even gave her a double portion of the offering to give to God. However, Peninnah was not so nice to Hannah. She made fun of Hannah because she did not have any children.

1 Samuel 1:5-8 NKJV

“But to Hannah he would give a double portion, for he loved Hannah, although the Lord had closed her womb. And her rival also provoked her severely, to make her miserable, because the Lord had closed her womb. So it was, year by year, when she went up to the house of the Lord, that she provoked her; therefore she wept and did not eat. Then Elkanah her husband said to her, “Hannah, why do you weep? Why do you not eat? And why is your heart grieved? Am I not better to you than ten sons?”

Year after year Peninnah teased Hannah so much that Hannah even lost her appetite. Her childlessness affected her whole outlook on life. She was so depressed and sad. In her bitterness and misery she could not see her many blessings, such as God’s goodness in giving her a loving husband.
In the house of God, Hannah cried out to God, asking the Lord to give her a son. She earnestly, specifically, and believingly prayed to Him. Hannah was praying so hard that her lips were moving but she wasn‘t making a sound., Eli, the priest, accused her of being drunk.

1 Samuel 1:9-14 NKJV

“So Hannah arose after they had finished eating and drinking in Shiloh. Now Eli the priest was sitting on the seat by the doorpost of the tabernacle of the Lord. And she was in bitterness of soul, and prayed to the Lord and wept in anguish. Then she made a vow and said, “O Lord of hosts, if You will indeed look on the affliction of Your maidservant and remember me, and not forget Your maidservant, but will give Your maidservant a male child, then I will give him to the Lord all the days of his life, and no razor shall come upon his head.” And it happened, as she continued praying before the Lord, that Eli watched her mouth. Now Hannah spoke in her heart; only her lips moved, but her voice was not heard. Therefore Eli thought she was drunk. So Eli said to her, “How long will you be drunk? Put your wine away from you!”

Hannah explained to Eli, the priest, that she was not drunk, but praying, because she was very sad. Knowing that God would surely do what was best for Hannah, Eli told her to go in peace. Eli reminded Hannah that as she brought her request to God in faith, she could have peace knowing that He would answer in the way best for her.

1 Samuel 1:15-18 NKJV

“But Hannah answered and said, “No, my lord, I am a woman of sorrowful spirit. I have drunk neither wine nor intoxicating drink, but have poured out my soul before the Lord. Do not consider your maidservant a wicked woman, for out of the abundance of my complaint and grief I have spoken until now.” Then Eli answered and said, “Go in peace, and the God of Israel grant your petition which you have asked of Him.” And she said, “Let your maidservant find favor in your sight.” So the woman went her way and ate, and her face was no longer sad.”

Eli knew that God would answer Hannah’s prayer in His own perfect way, so he told her to go in peace. After Hannah prayed and Eli spoke to her she was no longer sad or unhappy. She went her way rejoicing, knowing that God had truly heard her prayer. The next morning Elkanah and his family returned home.
God answered Hannah’s prayer in time and gave her a son. She named the baby Samuel, which means “Heard by God.”

1 Samuel 1:19-20 NKJV

“Then they rose early in the morning and worshiped before the Lord, and returned and came to their house at Ramah. And Elkanah knew Hannah his wife, and the Lord remembered her. So it came to pass in the process of time that Hannah conceived and bore a son, and called his name Samuel, saying, “Because I have asked for him from the Lord.”

Birth Of Jesus

birth of jesus

Memory Verse

John 2:15 NKJV
“And they came with haste and found Mary and Joseph, and the Babe lying in a manger.”

Bible Truth

Jesus was born in humble surroundings.

Bible Text:

John 2:15

John 1:1

Genesis 1:1

John 1:14

Luke 1:30-35

Luke 1:38

Luke 2:1-7

Luke 2:8-14

Luke 2: 21-22

Luke 2:25-32

Luke 2:35-38

Luke 1:80

.

.

Jesus was with God from the beginning, at creation. He helped create the entire world, including the earth, and everything on it. Jesus is “the Word.”

John 1:1 NKJV

“In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.”

Genesis 1:1 NKJV

“In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.”

Jesus was the most important person who ever lived on earth because He is the only person who was 100% human (man) and 100% God. Sometimes we call this the Incarnation, which means God came to be with us.

John 1:14 NKJV

“And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth.”

In John 1:14 the Bible says that Jesus was made flesh and dwelt among us. That means that Jesus, the second person of the trinity, came to live with us on earth. He willingly left His home in heaven with God the Father to come to this world because He knew that people needed a way of salvation – they needed a way to be restored into a right relationship with God.

John 14:6 NKJV

“Jesus said to him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.”

People in many parts of the world celebrate Jesus’ birth on December 25. They call it Christmas. However, that is not the true date of Jesus’ birth. Most likely Jesus was born in the fall. The Bible tells us that the sheep were still in the field when Jesus was born. The sheep were not in the fields during the winter months.

Angel Appears To Mary

Luke 1:30-35 NKJV

“Then the angel said to her, “Do not be afraid, Mary, for you have found favor with God.
And behold, you will conceive in your womb and bring forth a Son, and shall call His name Jesus.
He will be great, and will be called the Son of the Highest; and the Lord God will give Him the throne of His father David.
And He will reign over the house of Jacob forever, and of His kingdom there will be no end.”
Then Mary said to the angel, “How can this be, since I do not know a man?”
And the angel answered and said to her, “The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Highest will overshadow you; therefore, also, that Holy One who is to be born will be called the Son of God.”

God sent an angel named Gabriel to appear to Mary in the city of Nazareth in Galilee. Mary was a young woman who was engaged to marry Joseph, a carpenter of Nazareth. Both Mary and Joseph were of the family of King David. The angel Gabriel, spoke to Mary and told her that she was favored by God. The Holy Spirit would overshadow her and place within her Jesus, the Son of God, the Light of the World. Mary gladly accepted the words of the angel because she was a faithful servant of the Lord. Then the angel disappeared.

Luke 1:38 NKJV

“Then Mary said, “Behold the maidservant of the Lord! Let it be to me according to your word.” And the angel departed from her.”

Joseph and Mary went to Bethlehem for a census when Mary was almost ready to have her baby. After arriving in Bethlehem Joseph and Mary could not find a room in the inn because of the large number of visitors to the town. All Joseph could find was a stable behind the inn. While staying in the stable Jesus was born.

Luke 2:1-7 NKJV

“And it came to pass in those days that a decree went out from Caesar Augustus that all the world should be registered.
This census first took place while Quirinius was governing Syria.
So all went to be registered, everyone to his own city.
Joseph also went up from Galilee, out of the city of Nazareth, into Judea, to the city of David, which is called Bethlehem, because he was of the house and lineage of David,
to be registered with Mary, his bethrothed wife, who was with child.
So it was, that while they were there, the days were completed for her to be delivered.
And she brought forth her firstborn Son, and wrapped Him in swaddling cloths, and laid Him in a manger, because there was no room for them in the inn.”

Angels Appear To Shepherds

Luke 2:8-14 NKJV

“Now there were in the same country shepherds living out in the fields, keeping watch over their flock by night. And behold, an angel of the Lord stood before them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were greatly afraid.
Then the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid, for behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy which will be to all people.
For there is born to you this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord.
And this will be the sign to you: You will find a Babe wrapped in swaddling cloths, lying in a manger.”
And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God and saying:
“Glory to God in the highest, And on earth peace, and goodwill toward men!”

The night Jesus was born an angel of the Lord appeared to shepherds in a field watching sheep. The shepherds were afraid when they saw the angel, but the angel told them not to be afraid. Then the angel told them about the birth of Jesus, the Messiah. Other angels joined the one angel and they began to sing unto God.

Luke 2:15-18 NKJV

“So it was, when the angels had gone away from them into heaven, that the shepherds said to one another, “Let us now go to Bethlehem and see this thing that has come to pass, which the Lord has made known to us.”
And they came with haste and found Mary and Joseph, and the Babe lying in a manger.
Now when they had seen Him, they made wildly known the saying which was told them concerning this Child.
And all those who heard it marveled at those things which were told them by the shepherds.”

After the angels returned to heaven, the shepherds ran all the way to the village and found baby Jesus lying in the manger. They fell on their knees before Jesus, and worshipped Him. Then the shepherds went out and made widely known what was told to them. They were so excited to tell everyone that they had seen the Messiah with their own eyes. All those who heard it marveled at those things which were told to them by the shepherds. Afterwards the shepherds returned to their flocks of sheep, glorifying and praising God for all the things that they had heard and seen, as it was told to them.

Jesus Is Dedicated

When Jesus was eight days old Mary and Joseph took Him to the temple in Jerusalem to present Him to the Lord.

Luke 2: 21-22 NKJV

“And when eight days were completed for the circumcision of the Child, His name was called Jesus, the name given by the angel before He was conceived in the womb.
Now when the days of her purification according to the law of Moses were completed, they brought Him to Jerusalem to present Him to the Lord”

At the temple, Simeon, a very righteous man, and Anna, who was a devoted servant of God knew who Jesus was the moment they saw Him. God had revealed to them that Jesus was the Messiah through the power of the Holy Spirit.

Luke 2:25-32 NKJV

“And behold, there was a man in Jerusalem whose name was Simeon, and this man was just and devout, waiting for the Consolation of Israel, and the Holy Spirit was upon him.
And it had been revealed to him by the Holy Spirit that he would not see death before he had seen the Lord’s Christ.
So he came by the Spirit into the temple. And when the parents brought in the Child Jesus, to do for Him according to the custom of the law,
he took Him up in his arms and blessed God and said:
“Lord, now You are letting Your servant depart in peace, According to Your word;
For my eyes have seen Your salvation
Which You have prepared before the face of all peoples,
A light to bring revelation to the Gentiles, And the glory of Your people Israel.”

Luke 2:35-38 NKJV

“Now there was one, Anna, a prophetess, the daughter of Phanuel, of the tribe of Asher. She was of a great age, and had lived with a husband seven years from her virginity;
and this woman was a widow of about eighty-four years, who did not depart from the temple, but served God with fastings and prayers night and day. And coming in that instant she gave thanks to the Lord, and spoke of Him to all those who looked for redemption in Jerusalem.”

After His dedication, Mary and Joseph returned home with their new baby, Baby Jesus. Jesus grew and became strong in spirit, filled with wisdom, and the grace of God was upon Him.

Luke 1:80 NKJV

“So the child grew and became strong in spirit, and was in the deserts till the day of his manifestation to Israel.”

Jesus’ Rule and Reign

JESUS' RULE AND REIGN

Memory Verse

Revelation 22:5 NKJV

“There shall be no night there: They need no lamp nor light of the sun, for the Lord God gives them light. And they shall reign forever and ever.”

Bible Truth

Believers will reign with Jesus forever.

Bible Text:

Revelation 22:5

Revelation 20:1-3

Revelation 20:11-15

2 Peter 3:14

Revelation 21:7-8

Revelation 21:1-4

2 Peter 3:5-13

Revelation 21:18-21

Revelation 21:22-23

Revelation 22:1-5

Revelation 21:27

.

.

Seven years after the rapture Jesus will come to the earth, put the devil in a bottomless pit, and rule over the earth for 1000 years. This is called the millennial Reign of Jesus. During this time life on earth will be good. At the end of the Millennial Reign of Jesus, the devil will be loosed. He will be defeated in a war with Jesus and thrown into the lake of fire forever.

Revelation 20:1-3 NKJV

“Then I saw an angel coming down from heaven, having the key to the bottomless pit and a great chain in his hand. He laid hold of the dragon, that serpent of old, who is the Devil and Satan, and bound him for a thousand years; and he cast him into the bottomless pit, and shut him up, and set a seal on him, so that he should deceive the nations no more till the thousand years were finished. But after these things he must be released for a little while.”

After that God will judge sinners – those who have not accepted Jesus as their Savior and Lord. This judgment is known as the Great White Throne Judgment of God. The sinners names will not be found in the Book of Life so God will have to punish them and send them away from His presence forever. They will be thrown into the lake of fire with the devil forever and ever.

Revelation 20:11-15 NKJV

“Then I saw a great white throne and Him who sat on it, from whose face the earth and the heaven fled away. And there was found no place for them. And I saw the dead, small and great, standing before God, and books were opened. And another book was opened, which is the Book of Life. And the dead were judged according to their works, by the things which were written in the books. The sea gave up the dead who were in it, and Death and Hades delivered up the dead who were in them. And they were judged, each one according to his works. Then Death and Hades were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death. And anyone not found written in the Book of Life was cast into the lake of fire.”

The lake of fire is a very dark place which has a fire that never goes out. It is a place of great torment with crying and groaning. When we accept Jesus as our Savior our name is written in the Book of Life. This is the only way to spend eternity with God in heaven instead of hell / lake of fire.

New Heavens and New Earth

Revelation 21:1-4 NKJV

“Now I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away. Also there was no more sea. Then I, John, saw the holy city, New Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband. And I heard a loud voice from heaven saying, “Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and He will dwell with them, and they shall be His people. God Himself will be with them and be their God. And God will wipe away every tear from their eyes; there shall be no more death, nor sorrow, nor crying. There shall be no more pain, for the former things have passed away.”

After the final judgment, the great white throne judgment, God promised He would make a new heaven, a new Jerusalem, and a new earth.

2 Peter 3:5-13 NKJV

“For this they willfully forget: that by the word of God the heavens were of old, and the earth standing out of water and in the water, by which the world that then existed perished, being flooded with water. But the heavens and the earth which are now preserved by the same word, are reserved for fire until the day of judgment and perdition of ungodly men. But, beloved, do not forget this one thing, that with the Lord one day is as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day. The Lord is not slack concerning His promise, as some count slackness, but is longsuffering toward us, not willing that any should perish but that all should come to repentance. But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night, in which the heavens will pass away with a great noise, and the elements will melt with fervent heat; both the earth and the works that are in it will be burned up. Therefore, since all these things will be dissolved, what manner of persons ought you to be in holy conduct and godliness, looking for and hastening the coming of the day of God, because of which the heavens will be dissolved, being on fire, and the elements will melt with fervent heat? Nevertheless we, according to His promise, look for new heavens and a new earth in which righteousness dwells.”

Jesus will give His millennial kingdom to God the Father, the supreme ruler. All true Christians will live with God forever in a beautiful new universe. This new heaven will be so beautiful and the most wonderful place to live. Revelation 21 gives us several descriptions of it. There will be no more tears, no sun or moon, no more mourning, no more pain, no night or darkness, walls of precious gems, gates of pearl, streets of gold, and a river of life. And the best part of all is that we will live there forever with God.

The new Jerusalem, will come down out of heaven and will shine with the glory of God. The city will be made of gold and will be decorated with precious jewels, and the streets will be made of pure gold, as transparent glass.

Revelation 21:18-21 NKJV

“The construction of its wall was of jasper; and the city was pure gold, like clear glass. The foundations of the wall of the city were adorned with all kinds of precious stones: the first foundation was jasper, the second sapphire, the third chalcedony, the fourth emerald, the fifth sardonyx, the sixth sardius, the seventh chrysolite, the eighth beryl, the ninth topaz, the tenth chrysoprase, the eleventh jacinth, and the twelfth amethyst. The twelve gates were twelve pearls: each individual gate was of one pearl. And the street of the city was pure gold, like transparent glass.”

The new Jerusalem will have a great wall with 12 gates made of pearls. The city will not need any light from the sun or moon because Jesus, the Lamb of God will be the light.

Revelation 21:22-23 NKJV

“But I saw no temple in it, for the Lord God Almighty and the Lamb are its temple. The city had no need of the sun or of the moon to shine in it, for the glory of God illuminated it. The Lamb is its light.”

Revelation 22:1-5 NKJV

“And he showed me a pure river of water of life, clear as crystal, proceeding from the throne of God and of the Lamb. In the middle of its street, and on either side of the river, was the tree of life, which bore twelve fruits, each tree yielding its fruit every month. The leaves of the tree were for the healing of the nations. And there shall be no more curse, but the throne of God and of the Lamb shall be in it, and His servants shall serve Him. They shall see His face, and His name shall be on their foreheads. There shall be no night there: They need no lamp nor light of the sun, for the Lord God gives them light. And they shall reign forever and ever.”

Down the middle of the city will flow the river of life, and on each side of it will grow trees of life. The throne of God will be in the city, and people will worship God forever. There is so much more about heaven that we don’t know, and it will be far better than we could ever imagine.

.

.

Camp Challenge

2 Peter 3:14 NKJV

“Therefore, beloved, looking forward to these things, be diligent to be found by Him in peace, without spot and blameless”

Revelation 21:7-8 NKJV

“He who overcomes shall inherit all things, and I will be his God and he shall be My son. But the cowardly, unbelieving, abominable, murderers, sexually immoral, sorcerers, idolaters, and all liars shall have their part in the lake which burns with fire and brimstone, which is the second death.”

When we accept Jesus as our Savior our name is written in the Book of Life.

Revelation 21:27 NKJV

“But there shall by no means enter it anything that defiles, or causes an abomination or a lie, but only those who are written in the Lamb’s Book of Life.”

To accept Jesus we must pray admitting we have sinned, believe Jesus died and rose again for our sins, and confess our sins and ask Jesus to forgive us. Then we must live our lives every day doing what Jesus would want us to.

Prayer Supplement To Arrows Bible Study “Josiah Humbles Himself”

STUDY 12   Praying God’s Word

Hebrews 4:12 NKJV

“For the word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart”

Write a prayer to God using the following verses, or parts of them.

2 Chronicles 33:12-13 NKJV

“Now when he was in affliction, he implored the Lord his God, and humbled himself greatly before the God of his fathers, and prayed to Him; and He received his entreaty, heard his supplication, and brought him back to Jerusalem into his kingdom. Then Manasseh knew that the Lord was God.”

2 Chronicles 34:1-7 NKJV

“Josiah was eight years old when he became king, and he reigned thirty-one years in Jerusalem.
And he did what was right in the sight of the Lord, and walked in the ways of his father David; he did not turn aside to the right hand or to the left. For in the eighth year of his reign, while he was still young, he began to seek the God of his father David; and in the twelfth year he began to purge Judah and Jerusalem of the high places, the wooden images, the carved images, and the molded images. They broke down the altars of the Baals in his presence, and the incense altars which were above them he cut down; and the wooden images, the carved images, and the molded images he broke in pieces, and made dust of them and scattered it on the graves of those who had sacrificed to them. He also burned the bones of the priests on their altars, and cleansed Judah and Jerusalem. And so he did in the cities of Manasseh, Ephraim, and Simeon, as far as Naphtali and all around, with axes. When he had broken down the altars and the wooden images, had beaten the carved images into powder, and cut down all the incense altars throughout all the land of Israel, he returned to Jerusalem.”

2 Chronicles 34:27 NKJV

“because your heart was tender, and you humbled yourself before God when you heard His words against this place and against its inhabitants, and you humbled yourself before Me, and you tore your clothes and wept before Me, I also have heard you,” says the Lord.”

2 Chronicles 34:31-33 NKJV

‘Then the king stood in his place and made a covenant before the Lord, to follow the Lord, and to keep His commandments and His testimonies and His statutes with all his heart and all his soul, to perform the words of the covenant that were written in this book. And he made all who were present in Jerusalem and Benjamin take a stand. So the inhabitants of Jerusalem did according to the covenant of God, the God of their fathers. Thus Josiah removed all the abominations from all the country that belonged to the children of Israel, and made all who were present in Israel diligently serve the Lord their God. All his days they did not depart from following the Lord God of their fathers.”

In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Example:

.

Dear Father,

Thank-you for Your Word and its many promises. In my affliction, when I humble myself, I know that You will hear me and answer my cry. By the power of the Holy Spirit, help me to do what is right in Your sight and to walk in Your ways. Break down every altar or idol that has been set up in my life. May my heart be tender toward You and may I humble myself before You. Fill me with a greater desire for Your Word and may I act upon what Your Word says.

In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Made New

When we accept Jesus as our Lord and Savior we become a new creation. We are restored by Jesus to what God had originally created us to be. Everything about our lives change, because we are transformed into the likeness of Christ.

2 Corinthians 5:17 NKJV

“Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new.”

Just like a caterpillar changes into a butterfly, we too are changed when we accepted Jesus as our Savior. God transforms a person from being a sinner who does not know God and who does wrong into a person who loves God and wants to do right. Instead of doing and living the way we what to, we live to be like Jesus. Our desire is to please Him. Instead of looking at people, things and the world through our eyes we see everything through the eyes of Jesus. Everything about us becomes new!

Born Again

Late one night one of the religious leaders named Nicodemus went to speak to Jesus. Nicodemus recognized Jesus as a teacher sent from God. As Jesus was explaining the Scriptures with him, He said something Nicodemus did not understand. Jesus told Nicodemus that no one can see the kingdom of God unless they have been born again. Nicodemus did not understand what Jesus was talking about. How could a person be born again?”, he wondered. People today still ask that same question.

John 3:3 NKJV

“Jesus answered and said to him, ‘Most assuredly, I say to you, unless one is born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.’ ”

Nicodemus had never heard about “being born again.” Jesus explained to Nicodemus that you must be spiritually born again. He had a hard time fully understanding that it isn’t enough just to know God. Jesus told him that he had to begin a new life by being “born again.” Jesus continued to explain to Nicodemus who He was and what was going to happen to Him and why. Nicodemus listened very carefully to Jesus as He spoke. After the things that Jesus spoke about came true (after Jesus’ crucifixion) Nicodemus helped prepare the body of Jesus for burial.

John 19:38-42 NKJV

“After this, Joseph of Arimathea, being a disciple of Jesus, but secretly, for fear of the Jews, asked Pilate that he might take away the body of Jesus; and Pilate gave him permission. So he came and took the body of Jesus. And Nicodemus, who at first came to Jesus by night, also came, bringing a mixture of myrrh and aloes, about a hundred pounds.

Then they took the body of Jesus, and bound it in strips of linen with spices, as the custom of the Jews is to bury.

Now in the place where He was crucified there was a garden, and in the garden a new tomb in which no one had yet been laid. So there they laid Jesus, because of the Jews’ Preparation Day, for the tomb was nearby.”

Nicodemus had believed the things that Jesus told him and he was born again! Like Nicodemus we must believe in Jesus in order to be born again.

New Life In Christ

In the beginning God made everything and it was good. God would come down from heaven and walk with Adam and Eve in the evening. Man enjoyed a very intimate (close) relationship with God. Everything was perfect until sin entered into the picture. Because of the sin man could no longer enjoy the intimate relationship with God. God is a holy God and sin cannot come into His presence. Sin had separated man from God and it brought spiritual death into the world.

Romans 3:23 NKJV

“for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God”

Everyone has sinned and that means that we have been separated from God and are spiritually dead. We must experience new life in Jesus if we want a relationship with God – we must be born again. God loved us so much that He sent His Son, Jesus to pay our penalty for our sins. As Jesus hung on the cross, God laid on Jesus the sins of the whole world upon Him – all our sins were put on the sinless Son of God. Jesus suffered much on the cross then He died. Jesus took our punishment for our sins upon Him and the blood that He shed made a way for us to be forgiven.

John 3:16-17 NKJV

“For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved.”

Each one of us must be born again (to have our sins forgiven). We must experience the new birth that we receive when we admit that we have sinned and ask Jesus to forgive us. When we experience this new birth we become part of the family of God – we are born into His family.

John 1:12 NKJV

“But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, to those who believe in His name.”

The first thing that we must do is admit that we have sinned against a holy God. Then we must be willing to turn from our sin and believe that only Jesus can forgive us of our sins. When we admit that we have sinned, believe that Jesus can forgive us of our sins and confess our sins to Him, God will forgive us and we will experience a new birth. We are not the same – we are changed by the power of God.

Transformed By The Word

God’s Word shows us how we really are and how we should be. We must allow the Word of God to transform us into the image of Christ. When we look at ourselves through the mirror of God’s Word and submit ourselves to the work of the Holy Spirit, we are gloriously transformed more and more into Christ’s image.

Romans 12:2 NKJV

“And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.”

Christians must not allow the world to set their standards or morals. They are to be transformed by the renewing of their minds. All Christians are called to lives of holiness. It is a commandment from God – not a suggestion. Holy living shows our true identity. After a person accepts Jesus as their Lord and Savior they are no longer of this world – they belong to God. Each person will stand before God and give an account for the way that they lived. For the things that they did, didn’t do.

Fellowship With Christ

Just as fruit is produced on the branches of a healthy tree or vine, so spiritual fruit comes from the life of a believer in close daily fellowship with Jesus. If we desire to have good fruit in our lives we must remain in Christ.

Matthew 12:33-37 NKJV

“Either make the tree good and its fruit good, or else make the tree bad and its fruit bad; for a tree is known by its fruit. Brood of vipers! How can you , being evil, speak good things? For out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks. A good man out of the good treasures of his heart brings forth good things, and an evil man out of the evil treasures brings forth evil things. But I say to you that for every idle word men may speak, they will give account of it in the day of judgment, and by your words you will be condemned.’ ”

Ephesians 5:3-5 NKJV

“But fornication and all uncleanness or covetousness, let it not even be named among you, as is fitting for saints; neither filthiness, nor foolish talking, nor coarse jesting, which are not fitting, but rather giving thanks. For this you know, that no fornicator, unclean person, nor covetous man, who is an idolater, has any inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and God.”

The goodness of our fruit depends on how spiritually healthy and strong we are. The Holy Spirit who lives inside of the believer desires to produce good fruit in us and through us, however we must submit to Him in order for this to take place.

Memory Verse

John 1:12 NKJV

“But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, to those who believe in His name.”
