Review and Reflections

1. Read Esther 4:1-17. Why did Mordecai tore his clothes and put on sackcloth and ashes?


When Esther was told about Mordecai she sent garments to him. When Mordecai would not accept the clothes, then Esther sent one of the king’s ____________________ to learn what and why this was.

2. Read Esther 5:1-14. On the third day Esther put on her royal robes and stood in the inner court of the king’s palace, across from the king’s house, while the king sat on his royal throne in the royal house, facing the entrance of the house. How did the king respond to seeing Esther?


At the banquet the king said to Esther, “What is your petition? It shall be granted you. What is your request, up to half the kingdom? It shall be done!” What was Esther’s reply?


Haman went home and he sent for his friends and his wife Zeresh. Why?


What advice did his wife and his friends give him concerning Mordecai?



3. Read Esther 6:1-14. Why did the king have the book of the records of the chronicles read to him?


While listening to the reading, the king discovered that nothing was done to reward _____________________ for his part in saving his (the king’s) life.

What did the king ask Haman when he saw him?


Haman thought the king was talking about him so he said, “For the man whom the king delights to honor, let a ____________  ________ be brought which the king has worn, and a  ____________ on which the king has ridden, which has a royal crest placed on its head. Then let this robe and horse be delivered to the hand of one of the king’s most noble _______________, that he may array the man whom the king delights to honor. Haman took the robe and the horse, arrayed Mordecai and led him on horseback through the city square, and proclaimed before him, “Thus shall it be done to the man whom the king delights to honor!” How did this make Haman feel?



4. Read Esther 7:1-10. At the banquet the king again said to Esther, “What is your petition, Queen Esther? It shall be granted you. And what is your request, up to half the kingdom? It shall be done!” What did Esther ask for this time?
