Once Upon A Time God Gave A Sign

ONCE UPON A TIME GOD GAVE A SIGN

Theme: rainbows

Memory Verse: Genesis 9:16

Bible Truth: The rainbow is a sign of God’s covenant.

1. Open in prayer

2. Introduction – God Gave A Sign

After being on the boat for a little over a year, Noah and his family finally were told by God that they were to leave the boat. After Noah and his family had removed all the animals from the boat, Noah built an alter.

Noah was completely devoted to God and he wanted to offer to God a magnificent sacrifice because He had preserved him and his family from the flood.

On the alter Noah sacrificed animals and birds from all the clean animals that were on the ark. Noah made a promise to God that he and his family would do God’s will.

God smelled a soothing aroma coming up from Noah’s sacrifice. He was well pleased with Noah and his offering. God received Noah’s offering as an act of devotion and love toward Him. Then God said in His heart,” I will never again curse the ground for man’s sake, although the imagination of man’s heart is evil from his youth; nor will I again destroy every living thing as I have done.”

Noah and his sons were blessed by God, and He said to them, “Be fruitful and multiply, and fill the earth.” God then told Noah that man would be over every beast of the field, every bird in the air, and every creature in the sea. “Every animal and green herb shall be food for you,” said God.

Then God said to Noah and his sons, “ I make a covenant with you: Never again shall there be a flood to destroy the earth.” All at once a rainbow to appeared in the sky. “I have set My rainbow in the cloud, and it shall be a sign of My covenant between Me and all flesh.“

4. Memory Verse

“The rainbow shall be in the cloud, and I will look on it to remember the everlasting covenant between God and every living creature of all flesh that is on the earth.”

Genesis 9:16

5. Covenants

A covenant is an agreement made between two or more people that all promise not to break. Throughout the Bible we see several covenants that God made with man. God has always and will always keep His promises.

Some examples of covenants that God made with man are:

God’s covenant with Noah.

God’s covenant with Abraham.

God’s covenant with David.

The promise of a new covenant

6. God’s Covenant With Noah

The flood waters had been on the earth, and Noah and his family had been in the ark, for over a full year.

Genesis 8:13-14  NKJV      “ And it came to pass in the six hundred and first year, in the first month, the first day of the month, that the waters were dried up from the earth; and Noah removed the covering of the ark and looked, and indeed the surface of the ground was dry. And in the second month, on the twenty-seventh day of the month, the earth was dried.”

Now that the floodwaters had dried up and the danger was past, God spoke to Noah and told him it was time to leave the ark.

Genesis 8:15-19 NKJV      “Then God spoke to Noah, saying, “Go out of the ark, you and your wife, and your sons and your sons’ wives with you. Bring out with you every living thing of all flesh that is with you: birds and cattle and every creeping thing that creeps on the earth, so that they may abound on the earth, and be fruitful and multiply on the earth.” So Noah went out, and his sons and his wife and his sons’ wives with him. Every animal, every creeping thing, every bird, and whatever creeps on the earth, according to their families, went out of the ark.”

Out of his thankfulness and his devotion, Noah built an altar and sacrificed animals and birds, chosen from the clean animals that had been preserved on the ark. The sacrifice was pleasing and acceptable to God. God received Noah’s offering and in turn made a promise to him. God promised that the entire earth would not be devastated by a flood again.

Genesis 8:20-22 NKJV      “Then Noah built an altar to the Lord, and took of every clean animal and of every clean bird, and offered burnt offerings on the altar. And the Lord smelled a soothing aroma. Then the Lord said in His heart, “I will never again curse the ground for man’s sake, although the imagination of man’s heart is evil from his youth; nor will I again destroy every living thing as I have done. “While the earth remains, Seedtime and harvest, Cold and heat, Winter and summer, And day and night Shall not cease.”

Genesis 9:1-7 NKJV      “So God blessed Noah and his sons, and said to them: “Be fruitful and multiply, and fill the earth. And the fear of you and the dread of you shall be on every beast of the earth, on every bird of the air, on all that move on the earth, and on all the fish of the sea. They are given into your hand. Every moving thing that lives shall be food for you. I have given you all things, even as the green herbs. But you shall not eat flesh with its life, that is, its blood. Surely for your lifeblood I will demand a reckoning; from the hand of every beast I will require it, and from the hand of man. From the hand of every man’s brother I will require the life of man. “Whoever sheds man’s blood, By man his blood shall be shed; For in the image of God He made man. And as for you, be fruitful and multiply; Bring forth abundantly in the earth And multiply in it.”

Genesis 9:8-11 NKJV      “Then God spoke to Noah and to his sons with him, saying: “And as for Me, behold, I establish My covenant with you and with your descendants after you, and with every living creature that is with you: the birds, the cattle, and every beast of the earth with you, of all that go out of the ark, every beast of the earth. Thus I establish My covenant with you: Never again shall all flesh be cut off by the waters of the flood; never again shall there be a flood to destroy the earth.”

Genesis 9:12-17 NKJV      “And God said: “This is the sign of the covenant which I make between Me and you, and every living creature that is with you, for perpetual generations: I set My rainbow in the cloud, and it shall be for the sign of the covenant between Me and the earth. It shall be, when I bring a cloud over the earth, that the rainbow shall be seen in the cloud; and I will remember My covenant which is between Me and you and every living creature of all flesh; the waters shall never again become a flood to destroy all flesh. The rainbow shall be in the cloud, and I will look on it to remember the everlasting covenant between God and every living creature of all flesh that is on the earth.” And God said to Noah, “This is the sign of the covenant which I have established between Me and all flesh that is on the earth.”

7. Game – Memory Verse Pass The Ball Relay

Everyone can play the game – need 2 teams of equal number of players.

“The rainbow shall be in the cloud, and I will look on it to remember the everlasting covenant between God and every living creature of all flesh that is on the earth.”

Genesis 9:16

Each team is to line up in a row. Hand a ball to the first person in each row. They are to pass the ball to the person behind them and so on. When the ball gets to the last person in each row they are to run to the front of the line and say the memory verse. Then they are to pass the ball to the person behind them and so on. When the original first person is back in the front of the line the game is over.

8. God’s Covenant With Abraham

God promised to make Abram’s descendants into a great and mighty nation. This promised was fulfilled in the birth of Isaac and then later Jacob, through whom the twelve tribes of Israel were born. The descendants of Abraham did indeed become great nations.

Genesis 12:2 NKJV      “I will make you a great nation; I will bless you And make your name great; And you shall be a blessing.”

Genesis 13:14-18 NKJV      “And the Lord said to Abram, after Lot had separated from him: “Lift your eyes now and look from the place where you are—northward, southward, eastward, and westward;
for all the land which you see I give to you and your descendants forever.
And I will make your descendants as the dust of the earth; so that if a man could number the dust of the earth, then your descendants also could be numbered.
Arise, walk in the land through its length and its width, for I give it to you.”
Then Abram moved his tent, and went and dwelt by the terebinth trees of Mamre, which are in Hebron, and built an altar there to the Lord.”

Genesis 15:18-21 NKJV      “On the same day the Lord made a covenant with Abram, saying: “To your descendants I have given this land, from the river of Egypt to the great river, the River Euphrates—
the Kenites, the Kenezzites, the Kadmonites,
the Hittites, the Perizzites, the Rephaim,
the Amorites, the Canaanites, the Girgashites, and the Jebusites.”

In addition to becoming a great nation, God promised Abraham that “in you all the families of the earth shall be blessed.”

Genesis 12:3 NKJV     ” I will bless those who bless you, And I will curse him who curses you; And in you all the families of the earth shall be blessed.”

God fulfilled this promise through the birth of Jesus Christ.

9. God’s Covenant With David

God promised David that he would have a son for whom He would establish a kingdom.

2 Samuel 7:1-16 NKJV      “Now it came to pass when the king was dwelling in his house, and the Lord had given him rest from all his enemies all around,
that the king said to Nathan the prophet, “See now, I dwell in a house of cedar, but the ark of God dwells inside tent curtains.”
Then Nathan said to the king, “Go, do all that is in your heart, for the Lord is with you.”
But it happened that night that the word of the Lord came to Nathan, saying,
“Go and tell My servant David, ‘Thus says the Lord: “Would you build a house for Me to dwell in?
For I have not dwelt in a house since the time that I brought the children of Israel up from Egypt, even to this day, but have moved about in a tent and in a tabernacle.
Wherever I have moved about with all the children of Israel, have I ever spoken a word to anyone from the tribes of Israel, whom I commanded to shepherd My people Israel, saying, ‘Why have you not built Me a house of cedar?’”’
Now therefore, thus shall you say to My servant David, ‘Thus says the Lord of hosts: “I took you from the sheepfold, from following the sheep, to be ruler over My people, over Israel.
And I have been with you wherever you have gone, and have cut off all your enemies from before you, and have made you a great name, like the name of the great men who are on the earth.
Moreover I will appoint a place for My people Israel, and will plant them, that they may dwell in a place of their own and move no more; nor shall the sons of wickedness oppress them anymore, as previously,
since the time that I commanded judges to be over My people Israel, and have caused you to rest from all your enemies. Also the Lord tells you that He will make you a house.
“When your days are fulfilled and you rest with your fathers, I will set up your seed after you, who will come from your body, and I will establish his kingdom.
He shall build a house for My name, and I will establish the throne of his kingdom forever.
I will be his Father, and he shall be My son. If he commits iniquity, I will chasten him with the rod of men and with the blows of the sons of men.
But My mercy shall not depart from him, as I took it from Saul, whom I removed from before you.
And your house and your kingdom shall be established forever before you. Your throne shall be established forever.”’”

David’s descendants did not remain faithful to the provisions of the covenant. Despite their unfaithfulness, God remained faithful to His covenant and it’s ultimate – the Messiah.

Psalm 89:3-4 NKJV      ““I have made a covenant with My chosen, I have sworn to My servant David:
‘Your seed I will establish forever, And build up your throne to all generations.’” Selah

Psalm 89: 34 NKJV      “My covenant I will not break, Nor alter the word that has gone out of My lips.”

10. New Covenant Is Promised

A new covenant is promised in Jeremiah. The Israelites had continually broken the old covenant. Time and time again the people were called to repent, however they never truly had a lasting change of heart. Only God can change hearts and minds; thus a new covenant was needed.

Jeremiah 31:31-34 NKJV      “Behold, the days are coming, says the Lord, when I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel and with the house of Judah—not according to the covenant that I made with their fathers in the day that I took them by the hand to lead them out of the land of Egypt, My covenant which they broke, though I was a husband to them, says the Lord.
But this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, says the Lord: I will put My law in their minds, and write it on their hearts; and I will be their God, and they shall be My people.
No more shall every man teach his neighbor, and every man his brother, saying, ‘Know the Lord,’ for they all shall know Me, from the least of them to the greatest of them, says the Lord. For I will forgive their iniquity, and their sin I will remember no more.”

Under the new covenant no one (priests or prophets) would stand between the people and God. Everyone would have access to God and the Spirit would teach the people the knowledge of God.

Hebrews 8:8-12 NKJV      “Because finding fault with them, He says: “Behold, the days are coming, says the Lord, when I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel and with the house of Judah—
not according to the covenant that I made with their fathers in the day when I took them by the hand to lead them out of the land of Egypt; because they did not continue in My covenant, and I disregarded them, says the Lord.
For this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, says the Lord: I will put My laws in their mind and write them on their hearts; and I will be their God, and they shall be My people.
None of them shall teach his neighbor, and none his brother, saying, ‘Know the Lord,’ for all shall know Me, from the least of them to the greatest of them.
For I will be merciful to their unrighteousness, and their sins and their lawless deeds I will remember no more.”

11. GameCovenant Memory Game

Abraham

God promised to make his descendants into a great and mighty nation
David

God promised him that he would have a son for whom He would establish a kingdom.
Jeremiah

12. New Covenant Is Fulfilled

Through His work on the cross, Jesus fulfilled Jeremiah’s prediction of the coming of a new covenant.

Luke 1:68-79 NKJV      ““Blessed is the Lord God of Israel, For He has visited and redeemed His people,
And has raised up a horn of salvation for us In the house of His servant David,
As He spoke by the mouth of His holy prophets, Who have been since the world began,
That we should be saved from our enemies And from the hand of all who hate us,
To perform the mercy promised to our fathers And to remember His holy covenant,
The oath which He swore to our father Abraham:
To grant us that we, Being delivered from the hand of our enemies, Might serve Him without fear,
In holiness and righteousness before Him all the days of our life.
“And you, child, will be called the prophet of the Highest; For you will go before the face of the Lord to prepare His ways,
To give knowledge of salvation to His people By the remission of their sins,
Through the tender mercy of our God, With which the Dayspring from on high has visited us;
To give light to those who sit in darkness and the shadow of death, To guide our feet into the way of peace.”

There were several promises in the new covenant:

* God’s law will be written on believer’s hearts and minds, not on tablets of stone.

Hebrews 8:10 NKJV    “For this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, says the Lord: I will put My laws in their mind and write them on their hearts; and I will be their God, and they shall be My people.”

Hebrews 10:16-17 NKJV    ““This is the covenant that I will make with them after those days, says the Lord: I will put My laws into their hearts, and in their minds I will write them,”
then He adds, “Their sins and their lawless deeds I will remember no more”

* Believers will have a personal relationship with God.

Leviticus 26:12      NKJV “I will walk among you and be your God, and you shall be My people.”

2 Corinthians 6:16 NKJV    “And what agreement has the temple of God with idols? For you are the temple of the living God. As God has said: “I will dwell in them And walk among them. I will be their God, And they shall be My people.”

* All will know God.

Hebrews 8:11      NKJV “None of them shall teach his neighbor, and none his brother, saying, ‘Know the Lord,’ for all shall know Me, from the least of them to the greatest of them”

* God will forgive the sins of repentant people and remember them no more. The continual sacrifice of animals for the atonement of sin will cease.

Hebrews 8:12 NKJV      “For I will be merciful to their unrighteousness, and their sins and their lawless deeds I will remember no more”

Hebrews 10:17-18 NKJV      “then He adds, “Their sins and their lawless deeds I will remember no more.”
Now where there is remission of these, there is no longer an offering for sin.”

* Man will be able to boldly enter the Holy of Holies.

Hebrew 10:19-22 NKJV      “Therefore, brethren, having boldness to enter the Holiest by the blood of Jesus,
by a new and living way which He consecrated for us, through the veil, that is, His flesh,
and having a High Priest over the house of God,
let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled from an evil conscience and our bodies washed with pure water.”

13. New Covenant Is Made Valid By Christ’s Blood

Hebrews 9:11-23 NKJV      “But Christ came as High Priest of the good things to come, with the greater and more perfect tabernacle not made with hands, that is, not of this creation.
Not with the blood of goats and calves, but with His own blood He entered the Most Holy Place once for all, having obtained eternal redemption.
For if the blood of bulls and goats and the ashes of a heifer, sprinkling the unclean, sanctifies for the purifying of the flesh,
how much more shall the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered Himself without spot to God, cleanse your conscience from dead works to serve the living God?
And for this reason He is the Mediator of the new covenant, by means of death, for the redemption of the transgressions under the first covenant, that those who are called may receive the promise of the eternal inheritance.
For where there is a testament, there must also of necessity be the death of the testator.
For a testament is in force after men are dead, since it has no power at all while the testator lives.
Therefore not even the first covenant was dedicated without blood.
For when Moses had spoken every precept to all the people according to the law, he took the blood of calves and goats, with water, scarlet wool, and hyssop, and sprinkled both the book itself and all the people,
saying, “This is the blood of the covenant which God has commanded you.”
Then likewise he sprinkled with blood both the tabernacle and all the vessels of the ministry.
And according to the law almost all things are purified with blood, and without shedding of blood there is no remission.
Therefore it was necessary that the copies of the things in the heavens should be purified with these, but the heavenly things themselves with better sacrifices than these.”

14. New Covenant Is Remembered in the Lord’s Supper

Luke 22:19-22 NKJV      “And He took bread, gave thanks and broke it, and gave it to them, saying, “This is My body which is given for you; do this in remembrance of Me.”
Likewise He also took the cup after supper, saying, “This cup is the new covenant in My blood, which is shed for you.
But behold, the hand of My betrayer is with Me on the table.
And truly the Son of Man goes as it has been determined, but woe to that man by whom He is betrayed!”

1 Corinthians 11:23-26 NKJV      “For I received from the Lord that which I also delivered to you: that the Lord Jesus on the same night in which He was betrayed took bread;
and when He had given thanks, He broke it and said, “Take, eat; this is My body which is broken for you; do this in remembrance of Me.”
In the same manner He also took the cup after supper, saying, “This cup is the new covenant in My blood. This do, as often as you drink it, in remembrance of Me.”
For as often as you eat this bread and drink this cup, you proclaim the Lord’s death till He comes.

15. New Covenant Is Everlasting

Hebrews 13:20-21 NKJV      “Now may the God of peace who brought up our Lord Jesus from the dead, that great Shepherd of the sheep, through the blood of the everlasting covenant,
make you complete in every good work to do His will, working in you what is well pleasing in His sight, through Jesus Christ, to whom be glory forever and ever. Amen.”

18. Challenge and Altar Call

We can follow Noah’s example of obedience, devotion and thankfulness to God. Noah was so thankful that God had provided protection and provisions for his family that he gave an offering to God. He made a vow or a promise to God – He promised that he would obey God and do whatever God wanted him to do.

Because Noah made a promise to God, God made a promise back to him.

God takes promises very serious and so should we. Everything He has promised us, He will do. We can take comfort in knowing that He will be with us no matter where we go or what we go through.

Each one of us should let the wonders of God’s creation, including the rainbow, encourage us to speak about Him to those who doubt His existence and the promises that He has made to us.

1. Have you given yourself to God?

Do you have a personal relationship with Him?

2. Have you thanked God for all that He has given you and for all the things He has provided you with through the new covenant?

3. Have you thanked God for His faithfulness toward you?

Once Upon A Time Water Covered The Earth

ONCE UPON A TIME WATER COVERED THE EARTH

Theme: water

Memory Verse: Genesis 7:17

Bible Truth: The entire earth was flooded.

Bible Text:

Genesis 7:1-24

Genesis 8:1-14

1. Open in prayer

2. Introduction – Once Upon A Time Water Covered The Earth

Once upon a time water came up from the ground and out of the sky and covered the entire earth. Noah had just finished building a big boat according to God’s instructions. When everything was ready God shut the door to the boat. Inside the boat was Noah, his wife, their three sons and their three wives. Also, there were many, many animals on the boat.

God was going to save the people and animals that were in the boat, but He was going to destroy those not in the boat by causing a great flood.

Shortly after Noah and his family were settle in the boat they heard a strange sound. It was the sound of rain! They had never heard this sound before because it had never rained before this time.

The rain fell from the sky just as God said it would, and water came up from the ground. The water covered the entire ground and continued to rise. As the water rose so did the boat. It began to float on top of the rising water.

This was a very sad and scary time for the people left on the earth. They ran to the mountains and tried to climb to higher ground in order to escape the flood waters. But the water rose higher and higher, until the mountains were covered and all the people, wicked as they were, were drowned in the great flood that now covered the entire earth. All the animals on the ground as well as all the birds were drowned as well.

For forty days and nights the rain continued to fall. The water stayed on the earth for more than six months. The boat, with everyone in it, floated in the water that covered the land. After a while God sent a wind to blow over the water and dry it up, so gradually the flood went away. The boat ceased to float as it came to rest on Mount Ararat.

Noah and his family could tell that the boat was not floating anymore. After a while Noah opened a window and let out a raven. The raven did not come back, so Noah sent out a dove. But the dove could not find any place to rest, so it flew back to the boat.

After waiting a week Noah sent the dove out again. Latter the dove returned again to the boat, but this time it had a small piece of an olive branch in its mouth.

Noah and his family were excited because they knew that the waters had went down enough to allow the trees to grow again. Noah waited another week then he sent the dove out again. This time the dove never came back, so they knew that the earth was dry again.

Noah, his family and the animals had been on the boat for a little over a year when they heard the voice of God again. “Come out of the boat.”

Noah opened the door and he, his family and all the animals came out and stood on dry ground.

5. Noah Finds Favor In God’s Sight

The people that God had created had become very wicked. It grieved God so much that the people He had created no longer loved Him and were full of sin. As God looked over all the people on earth, Noah was the only righteous man to be found. Noah’s character is described as righteous and blameless. Noah conformed to God’s standard – the things that God sought in man were present in Noah.Noah was a man who believed in God took Him at His word. The Bible tells us that Noah walked with God. There was fellowship between Noah and God.

Because of the sinfulness of the people (rebellion to God), God was going to destroy the world and He instructed Noah to build an ark. Noah obeyed God’s command to build an ark. It took Noah and his sons one hundred and twenty years to build the ark During this time Noah warned the people about the coming judgment.

Genesis 7:1-3 NKJV “Then the Lord said to Noah, “Come into the ark, you and all your household, because I have seen that you are righteous before Me in this generation. You shall take with you seven each of every clean animal, a male and his female; two each of animals that are unclean, a male and his female; also seven each of birds of the air, male and female, to keep the species alive on the face of all the earth.”

God commanded Noah and his family to enter the ark which they had built. They were to take with them two of every animal (a male and a female) and five of every clean animal.

Genesis 7:4-6 NKJV “For after seven more days I will cause it to rain on the earth forty days and forty nights, and I will destroy from the face of the earth all living things that I have made.”
And Noah did according to all that the Lord commanded him.
Noah was six hundred years old when the floodwaters were on the earth.”

Genesis 7:7-9 NKJV “So Noah, with his sons, his wife, and his sons’ wives, went into the ark because of the waters of the flood. Of clean animals, of animals that are unclean, of birds, and of everything that creeps on the earth,
two by two they went into the ark to Noah, male and female, as God had commanded Noah.”

6. GamePass The Boat Relay Race

Need : 2 cardboard boat cut outs or 2 small toy boats.

Divide the children into two teams. Each team is to line up in a row. Hand a boat to the first person on each team. They are to pass the boat to the person behind them and so on. When the boat gets to the last person in each row they are to run to the front of the line and say the memory verse, then pass the boat to the person behind them and so on. When the original first person is back in the front of the line the game is over. The team that finishes first is the winner.

7. Noah And His Family Enter The Ark

Noah and his family obeyed God’s command to enter the ark immediately. When Noah, his family, and the animals were in the ark, God shut the door.

Genesis 7:13-16 NKJV “On the very same day Noah and Noah’s sons, Shem, Ham, and Japheth, and Noah’s wife and the three wives of his sons with them, entered the ark—they and every beast after its kind, all cattle after their kind, every creeping thing that creeps on the earth after its kind, and every bird after its kind, every bird of every sort. And they went into the ark to Noah, two by two, of all flesh in which is the breath of life. So those that entered, male and female of all flesh, went in as God had commanded him; and the Lord shut him in.”

After seven days the fountains of the great deep were broken up, and the windows of heaven were opened, bringing rain. It rained for forty days and forty nights. As the flood waters begin to cover everything on earth, even the tallest mountains, the ark began to float.

Genesis 7:10-12 NKJV “And it came to pass after seven days that the waters of the flood were on the earth.
In the six hundredth year of Noah’s life, in the second month, the seventeenth day of the month, on that day all the fountains of the great deep were broken up, and the windows of heaven were opened.
And the rain was on the earth forty days and forty nights.”

Genesis 7:17-20 NKJV “Now the flood was on the earth forty days. The waters increased and lifted up the ark, and it rose high above the earth. The waters prevailed and greatly increased on the earth, and the ark moved about on the surface of the waters. And the waters prevailed exceedingly on the earth, and all the high hills under the whole heaven were covered. The waters prevailed fifteen cubits upward, and the mountains were covered.”

Everything and everyone whose home was on the land died, old and young alike. The flood waters raged on the earth for one hundred and fifty days. The flood was so destructive that only Noah, his family, and the animals on the ark survived.

Genesis 7:21-24 NKJV “And all flesh died that moved on the earth: birds and cattle and beasts and every creeping thing that creeps on the earth, and every man. All in whose nostrils was the breath of the spirit of life, all that was on the dry land, died. So He destroyed all living things which were on the face of the ground: both man and cattle, creeping thing and bird of the air. They were destroyed from the earth. Only Noah and those who were with him in the ark remained alive. And the waters prevailed on the earth one hundred and fifty days.”

8. GameGather the Animals Memory Verse Game

The Great Flood was a way that God divided the righteous people from the unrighteous people. The righteous were saved by the ark and the unrighteous were destroyed by the flood waters.

One day all the people in the world will be divided again, however The righteous, one’s that have been washed by the blood of Jesus, will be allowed to go to heaven. The unrighteous, the unsaved, will be thrown into the Lake of Fire. The choices that we make while we are alive will determine where we will spend eternity. Our choices determine if we will be allowed in Heaven or cast into the Lake of Fire.

Need :

Animals cut-out with the memory verse written on each one – one per child.

Two poster boards – draw an ark on each one.

Two rolls of tape

Divide the class into two teams and have them line up in two lines. Place a poster board ( with ark drawn on it) a short distance from each team. Give each child an animal with the memory verse on it.

Give the first person on each team a roll of tape.

At the signal the first person on each team will run to the poster board and tape their animal on it and say the memory verse, then run back to their team. The next person in line will run to the poster board and repeat the process. The team that finishes first is the winner.

9. God Remembers Noah

God in His great mercy and compassion, remembered Noah and his family. He caused the fountains of the deep and the rain from heaven to stop, a great wind to blow over the flood waters. For one hundred and fifty days the wind blew causing the waters receded from the earth.

At the end of the hundred and fifty days the waters decreased and the ark came to rest on the mountains of Ararat. The water continually decreased until the tops of the mountains were seen.

Genesis 8:1-5 NKJV “Then God remembered Noah, and every living thing, and all the animals that were with him in the ark. And God made a wind to pass over the earth, and the waters subsided. The fountains of the deep and the windows of heaven were also stopped, and the rain from heaven was restrained. And the waters receded continually from the earth. At the end of the hundred and fifty days the waters decreased. Then the ark rested in the seventh month, the seventeenth day of the month, on the mountains of Ararat. And the waters decreased continually until the tenth month. In the tenth month, on the first day of the month, the tops of the mountains were seen.”

After the ark had rested for forty days, Noah opened the window and sent out a raven. When let out of the ark, the raven did not return. It flew until it found land. In order to find out if the waters were receding from the land, Noah sent out another bird, a dove. The dove did not find land so it returned to the ark. Seven days later, Noah sent the dove back out. The dove returned with a freshly plucked olive leaf in it’s mouth. Noah waited another seven days, then he sent the dove out again. This time the dove did not return to the ark.

Genesis 8:6-12 NKJV “So it came to pass, at the end of forty days, that Noah opened the window of the ark which he had made. Then he sent out a raven, which kept going to and fro until the waters had dried up from the earth. He also sent out from himself a dove, to see if the waters had receded from the face of the ground. But the dove found no resting place for the sole of her foot, and she returned into the ark to him, for the waters were on the face of the whole earth. So he put out his hand and took her, and drew her into the ark to himself. And he waited yet another seven days, and again he sent the dove out from the ark. Then the dove came to him in the evening, and behold, a freshly plucked olive leaf was in her mouth; and Noah knew that the waters had receded from the earth. So he waited yet another seven days and sent out the dove, which did not return again to him anymore.”

12. Challenge and Altar Call

God provided a way for man to be saved from the great flood by having Noah build an ark. However, no one accepted that way of salvation. So God sent a great flood to destroy all wickedness on the earth.

The flood was so great that we can still see evidence of it today. Such as the Grand Canyon and different mountain ranges. Nothing in nature has happened by accident. Everything was a part of God’s plan and His handiwork. Just like in the days of Noah, today there are many, many people who don’t believe what God says is true and they do not respect God nor the people who follow God.

From the story of the flood we can learn some important truth:

Evil will be destroyed

God has made a way of escape

God has a plan for us and our future

One day God will destroy the earth and all the evil on it again, but this time it will be by fire. However God offers us a way of escape through His Son, Jesus Christ. Jesus paid the price for our evil on Calvary. By confessing our sins and evil and accepting Jesus as our Lord and Savior we can be saved from destruction.

Just like in the days of Noah, not everyone will accept God’s offer of safety. Not everyone will be obedient to God and His instructions.

1. Have you accepted God’s plan of salvation (safety)?

Have you confessed your sins to God and asked for forgiveness?

2. Will you be saved when the world as we know it is destroyed?

3. Do you have trouble obeying God.

4. Have you sought God for the plan that He has for your life?

“Once Upon A Time There Was A Floating Zoo”

ONCE UPON A TIME THERE WAS A FLOATING ZOO

Theme:  animals, zoo

Memory Verse:  Hebrews 11:7

Bible Truth:  Faith in God leads to godly fear.

Bible Text:

Hebrews 11:7

Genesis 6:1-22

Genesis 7:1-9

Genesis 8:20-22

Acts 16:31

1. Open in prayer

2. Introduction – Noah’s Ark

Once upon a time there was a big, big boat, filled with all kinds of animals. It resembled a large floating zoo. It was filled with every kind of animal imaginable. It all start when God looked down from heaven and saw all the evil committed by man.

God has created man to have fellowship with Him, but over the many years since his creation he had turned from God and from godly ways. He no longer obeyed God, nor did he desire to walk with God. The hearts of man had became wicked and filled with violence.

As God looked down at man and all his evil ways it made Him sad that He had ever created them. Everyone had turned from Him, that is everyone except Noah. Noah was the great, great, great, great, great, great, great, grandson of Adam, the first man. Everywhere God looked there was evil, violence, and hatred of every kind. Despite living in a wicked world Noah still loved God and he still followed God. His heart’s desire was to do right in the sight of God.

As God thought about everything He saw He decided that He would start over. Since Noah was the only one that was still righteous God would use him to start over. Although it grieved His heart, He would destroy everyone except Noah and his family. Because of his godly lifestyle Noah had found grace and favor with God.

“I’m going to bring a great flood of water on the earth, to cover all the land and drown all the people on the earth. This great flood will not only drown the people, it will also drown all the animals, so an ark will be needed to save your family as well as animals,” said God. Then God told Noah that in order to preserve the animals and his family he was to build a boat. This would not be an ordinary boat. It was to be very long and very wide and very deep, with a roof over it. It would resembled a long, wide three story house. Noah was to build the boat according to God’s instructions, and to be ready for when he would need it.

God told Noah to take with them on the boat all the food that they would need for a year, enough for his family and for the animals.

Noah believed God and he set out to build the boat. It seemed very strange to the other people. As Noah and his three sons worked on the boat the people would come by just to see. They would laugh at Noah and make all kinds of jokes and remarks. Noah and his family would tell the people what God had said about the water covering the earth. This really made them laugh, after all, there was no water at all in their area. Also because it had never rained before. For one hundred and twenty years they worked and worked, and worked on the boat.

At last the big boat was finished. Just as God had instructed, they put a door on the side at the bottom and a small window at the top.

Then God instructed Noah to gather animals and put them on the boat. He was to take with them on the boat seven pairs of the animals that they would need, and one pair of all the rest. That way all kinds of animals would survive the flood that God was going to send.

So Noah and his family did as God told them. The gathered all the supplies that they would need. And as God supernaturally brought the animals to the door of the boat, Noah and his family would take them onto the big boat. They put the animals in their places and brought in food for them.

One day, after Noah, his wife, their three sons and their wives entered the boat God shut and sealed the door to the boat. It could not be opened by anyone. No more people or animals would be allowed on the big boat.

4. Memory Verse

Hebrews 11:7 “By faith Noah, being divinely warned of things not yet seen, moved with godly fear, prepared an ark for the saving of his household.”

5. Obedience and Disobedience

Obedience is doing what you are asked to do immediately, completely, and willingly. It can also be described as following instructions.

There is a big difference between obedience and disobedience, both now and in the future. Obedience brings good things into our lives and it is always rewarded. Disobedience brings heartache and pain. God expects us to obey. Just like in the days of Noah, time will run out for man to obey. Then the whole world will be judged. Disobedience will be judged and those walking in disobedience will be punished. Those who are obedient will receive great rewards.

6. Game – Kangaroo Hop Relay Race

Hebrews 11:7 “By faith Noah, being divinely warned of things not yet seen, moved with godly fear, prepared an ark for the saving of his household.”

Divide the children into 2 teams. Line the teams up at one end of the room.

At the signal the first person on each team is to hop to the front and say the memory verse, then hop back to their team. The next person on the team will do the same thing.

The team that finishes first is the winner.

7. Noah

The earth had become completely corrupt and over time God was grieved. The people He had created had become extremely sinful and had rejected Him and His love.

Genesis 6:1-7 NKJV     “Now it came to pass, when men began to multiply on the face of the earth, and daughters were born to them,
that the sons of God saw the daughters of men, that they were beautiful; and they took wives for themselves of all whom they chose. And the Lord said, “My Spirit shall not strive with man forever, for he is indeed flesh; yet his days shall be one hundred and twenty years.” There were giants on the earth in those days, and also afterward, when the sons of God came in to the daughters of men and they bore children to them. Those were the mighty men who were of old, men of renown. Then the Lord saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every intent of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually. And the Lord was sorry that He had made man on the earth, and He was grieved in His heart. So the Lord said, “I will destroy man whom I have created from the face of the earth, both man and beast, creeping thing and birds of the air, for I am sorry that I have made them.”

However, God was not willing to break His promise to redeem man so He looked for a righteous person. During this time, Noah was the only person in this society who walked with God. Despite his sinful surrounding, Noah continued to live a righteous life. Despite how bad other people were, Noah continued doing what was right in God’s sight.

Genesis 6:8-9 NKJV     “But Noah found grace in the eyes of the Lord.
This is the genealogy of Noah. Noah was a just man, perfect in his generations. Noah walked with God.”

Noah and his wife had three sons: Shem, Ham, and Japheth.

Genesis 6:10 NKJV “And Noah begot three sons: Shem, Ham, and Japheth.”

God told Noah that He was going to destroy the world

Genesis 6:11-13 NKJV “The earth also was corrupt before God, and the earth was filled with violence.
So God looked upon the earth, and indeed it was corrupt; for all flesh had corrupted their way on the earth.
And God said to Noah, “The end of all flesh has come before Me, for the earth is filled with violence through them; and behold, I will destroy them with the earth.”

8. GameWalk With God

Need: papers with numbers written on them, music

God invites everyone to come to have a personal relationship with Him. The Bible tells us that the only way to God is through Jesus. If we believe in Jesus and accept Him as our Savior, our sins will be forgiven. Some people get too busy in their lives to accept God’s offer. Even after some people accept Jesus as Savior, they get too busy to know Him as He desires for them to. God wants to forgive our sins and He wants us to take time to know Him.

One day Jesus will return for those that have an intimate relationship with Him. Only those who have prepared themselves and are watching will go with Jesus when He returns. We can prepare ourselves for Jesus’ return by walking with Him every day.

Everyone can play. (play several times)

Before meeting place pieces of papers with numbers them on the floor in a circle.

Have the children stand on the papers – 1 person to 1 paper.

Play music, then stop it

When the music stops and everyone is on a circle call (draw) a number. Whoever is standing on the number wins – They walked with God.

9. The Ark

Noah was told to build an ark – a very large boat. God gave Noah instructions concerning the design and dimensions of the ark. The ark was about 450 feet long, 75 feet wide, and 45 feet high. It had three decks and was divided into compartments. Calculations have been made estimating that there was room in the ark for 7000 species of animals.

Genesis 6:14-16 NKJV “Make yourself an ark of gopherwood; make rooms in the ark, and cover it inside and outside with pitch. And this is how you shall make it: The length of the ark shall be three hundred cubits, its width fifty cubits, and its height thirty cubits. You shall make a window for the ark, and you shall finish it to a cubit from above; and set the door of the ark in its side. You shall make it with lower, second, and third decks.”

People no doubt made fun of Noah and some may have even hated him, but Noah continued to be obedient and faithful to God. He continued to build the ark no matter what those around him thought. Finally after one hundred and twenty years the ark was completed. God spoke to Noah giving Him further instructions. Noah was to take seven each of every clean animal, a male and his female; two each of animals that were unclean, a male and his female; also seven each of birds of the air, male and female.

Genesis 6:17-22 NKJV “And behold, I Myself am bringing floodwaters on the earth, to destroy from under heaven all flesh in which is the breath of life; everything that is on the earth shall die. But I will establish My covenant with you; and you shall go into the ark—you, your sons, your wife, and your sons’ wives with you. And of every living thing of all flesh you shall bring two of every sort into the ark, to keep them alive with you; they shall be male and female. Of the birds after their kind, of animals after their kind, and of every creeping thing of the earth after its kind, two of every kind will come to you to keep them alive. And you shall take for yourself of all food that is eaten, and you shall gather it to yourself; and it shall be food for you and for them.” Thus Noah did; according to all that God commanded him, so he did.”

Genesis 7:1-9 NKJV “Then the Lord said to Noah, “Come into the ark, you and all your household, because I have seen that you are righteous before Me in this generation. You shall take with you seven each of every clean animal, a male and his female; two each of animals that are unclean, a male and his female; also seven each of birds of the air, male and female, to keep the species alive on the face of all the earth. For after seven more days I will cause it to rain on the earth forty days and forty nights, and I will destroy from the face of the earth all living things that I have made.” And Noah did according to all that the Lord commanded him. Noah was six hundred years old when the floodwaters were on the earth. So Noah, with his sons, his wife, and his sons’ wives, went into the ark because of the waters of the flood. Of clean animals, of animals that are unclean, of birds, and of everything that creeps on the earth, two by two they went into the ark to Noah, male and female, as God had commanded Noah.”

Two of every animal (a male and a female) were to keep the species and the other five of the every clean animal, and the other five of each of birds of the air were possibly for food and for a sacrifice later on.

10. Game – I’m Riding On An Ark…

Need: a ball

Have the children sit in a circle.

Begin the game by saying, “I’m riding on the ark with a (name of an animal).” Name a animal, then toss the ball to another person in the circle. That person repeats the sentence so far, then adds their own animal. See if you can get all the way around the circle without forgetting an animal.

11. Worship Song – ___________________________

12. Challenge and Altar Call

Noah still loved God and he still followed God despite living in a wicked world. Sinful people were ruining God’s world. Noah’s heart’s desire was to do right in the sight of God. His life consistently reflected godliness.

God gave Noah clear instructions on how he and his family could be saved. Noah obeyed God. Because of obedience Noah and his family were saved from the destruction that came upon the earth through the flood.

God had extended to the people a grace period of 120 years before He destroyed the world. During the 120 years that it took Noah to build the ark the people had an opportunity to turn from their sin and to turn to God. However, they did not. They never repented therefore they were judged and condemned to die.

If there was not a man and a family who by God’s grace stood out from the wickedness of their day, there would have been a new beginning to the world that did not include man.

Like Noah we live in a wicked world. Sin abounds everywhere we look. It must be our heart’s desire to do right in the sight of God if we want to be saved. Our lives must reflect godliness. God has given us clear instructions on how we, too, can be saved and escape the coming destruction.

Acts 16:31 NKJV     “So they said, ‘Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and you will be saved, you and your household.’ ”

The next time that God destroys the world it will be with fire and not with water. If we truly believe on the Lord Jesus Christ we will be saved. We are living under a period of grace.

Sin and wickedness will not be part of the new heavens and the new earth. Just like in the days of Noah, sinful man will be judged and condemned. It is not God’s desire that we perish, but that we have eternal life with Him. However, the choice is ours.

Allow the children time to pray.

When God looks at your heart, what does He see?

Is your lifestyle one that pleases God?

Are you obedient to God?

Will you be part of the new heavens and the new earth?

Do you desire a closer walk with God?

2. Introduction – “Once Upon A Time The Ground Cried Out”

God sent Adam and Eve out of the Garden of Eden and into the world to live and work. When they lived in the garden they could talk to God face to face. They would spend time in the evenings walking and fellowshipping with Him. But since sin had come between them, they could no longer do this. They were no longer free to enjoy this privilege. God is a holy God and sin separates man from Him. Now when they came to God they had to build an alter made out of rocks. On the alter they would place an offering or a gift for God, then they would burn it. After that they would pray to God.

For a while it was just the two of them, they were all alone. After a while Eve gave birth to a baby boy. They named him Cain. Several years later, Eve gave birth to second baby boy and they named him Abel. Later on Adam and Eve had other children, sons and daughters.

The boys grew up playing and sharing with each other just like brothers do today. When they were old enough they helped their father work. Cain chose to work in the fields, raising grains and fruits and vegetables. He became a farmer. Abel chose to work with the sheep and the other livestock. He became a shepherd. Each one of them doing the work that they liked best.

One day the brothers decided to give an offering to God. Cain brought some fruit and some grain that he had grown and placed it on the alter. Abel brought the firstborn of his sheep from his flock, killed it, and burned it on the alter.

Abel offered the very best that he had to God and God was very pleased. God respected Abel and his offering. However, He did not respect Cain or his offering because it was a “token” offering. Cain had not given his very best to God nor had given it for the right reasons.

Cain became very angry and jealous. “Why are you angry?” asked God. “Why are you frowning and sulking? If you do well I will accept you too. But if you do not do well you will be overtaken by sin.”

God told Cain that he could get it right. He didn’t have to be angry because he could do well if he chose to. God was giving Cain another chance to make things right concerning his offering.

One day while the two brothers were in a field together Cain and Abel talked with each other. Then Cain picked up something from the ground and hit his brother in the head. The blow was so hard that Abel instantly fell to the ground and all of his blood flowed out of the wound unto the ground. In moments Able lay dead at his brother’s feet. Cain had been so angry that he had allowed the sin of jealousy to so consume him that he murdered his very own brother.

A short time later Cain heard they voice of God, “Where is Abel your brother?”

Angrily Cain replied, “I don’t know. Am I my brother’s keeper?”

“What have you done Cain?” asked God. “The voice of your brother’s blood cried out to Me from the ground.”

When confronted with his sin, Cain still would not admit guilt nor remorse. “Cain, you are cursed from the ground, which has opened it’s mouth to receive your brother’s blood shed by you!” said God. “From now on you will wander about the land like a fugitive and you will have no permanent home.”

Cain was not sorry for what he had done, but he was upset about his punishment. “My punishment is greater than I can bear! You are driving out of this land and away from You. I will be like a man on the run and I won’t have any place to call my home. I will probably be killed by someone else.” complained Cain. He was afraid that his other sisters and brothers might try to take vengeance into their own hands.

So God gave a command for no one to kill Cain, and He put a mark on Cain so that people would know it was him.

Then Cain went out from the presence of God and lived in the land of Nod, which was on the east side of Eden.

“Now Cain talked with Abel his brother, and it came to pass, when they were in the field, that Cain rose against Abel his brother and killed him.”

Genesis 4:8

5. Cain and Abel

Adam and Eve had many sons and daughters but there first two children were sons. They are remembered most for the first murder. Cain and Abel were a contrast between good and evil. Abel obeyed God and was accepted of Him. Cain came up with his own idea and displeased God.

Genesis 4:1-2 NKJV “Now Adam knew Eve his wife, and she conceived and bore Cain, and said, “I have acquired a man from the Lord.” Then she bore again, this time his brother Abel. Now Abel was a keeper of sheep, but Cain was a tiller of the ground.”

Eve gave birth to her first son and named him Cain. Later she gave birth again to another son and she named him Abel. Abel, the younger brother, grew up to be a shepherd, while Cain pursued farming.

Genesis 4:3-4 NKJV “And in the process of time it came to pass that Cain brought an offering of the fruit of the ground to the Lord. Abel also brought of the firstborn of his flock and of their fat. And the Lord respected Abel and his offering”

One day Cain and Abel went to worship God. Each one brought his offering to God. Cain brought fruit and vegetables from his garden and Abel brought one of the best lambs from his flock.

The Lord was pleased with Abel and accepted his offering. God knew what was in Abel’s heart. Abel trusted God and wanted to please Him. His attitude and actions were right. Abel’s offering was the best that he had.

God was not pleased with Cain and his offering. God also knew what was in Cain’s heart and He knew that Cain’s actions and attitude were wrong. Cain wanted to do things his own way instead of God’s way. His offering reflected what was in his heart. Cain was upset at God because He would not accept his sacrifice (the best of his good works), though He accepted Abel’s blood offering (God’s prescribed way). Cain was jealous of and angry at his brother Abel.

Genesis 4:5 NKJV “but He did not respect Cain and his offering. And Cain was very angry, and his countenance fell.”

God questioned Cain about his attitude and pleaded with him to “do well.” If Cain would change his attitude, believe in God, and do what He said, everything would be well. If not, Cain would have to face the consequences.

Genesis 4:6-7 NKJV “So the Lord said to Cain, “Why are you angry? And why has your countenance fallen?
If you do well, will you not be accepted? And if you do not do well, sin lies at the door. And its desire is for you, but you should rule over it.”

6. GameAcceptable Offering / Balloons In A Basket

Need: Balloons (2 different colors)

2 baskets – label one “ACCEPTABLE” and the other “UNACCEPTABLE”

The class will need to be divided into two teams. Tell each team the color of their balloons. At the signal the children (all at one time) will try to kick balloons in the baskets – they may not use their hands.

The first team that is able to get 2 balloons of each color in the baskets will be the winner.

7. Cain Kills Abel

Cain refused to accept God’s way. Instead, his heart hardened even more. One day as Cain and Abel were in the field, Cain was so overcome with jealously and anger that it led to him killing his brother, Abel.

Genesis 4:8 NKJV “Now Cain talked with Abel his brother; and it came to pass, when they were in the field, that Cain rose up against Abel his brother and killed him.”

After the murder, God questioned Cain concerning the whereabouts of his brother. Cain did not admit to what he had done, instead he responded by lying to God. He said that he did not know where Abel was. Then Cain asked God, “Am I my brother’s keeper.”

God asked Cain what he had done. He told Cain, “Your brother’s blood cried out to Me from the ground.”

Genesis 4:9-10 NKJV “Then the Lord said to Cain, “Where is Abel your brother?” He said, “I do not know. Am I my brother’s keeper?” And He said, “What have you done? The voice of your brother’s blood cries out to Me from the ground.”

When told of his consequences of his sin, Cain complained that his punishment was too great. Cain expressed his distress only at the punishment he was to receive, not at the crime that he had committed. There was no repentance or remorse toward his actions.

Genesis 4:11-16 NKJV “So now you are cursed from the earth, which has opened its mouth to receive your brother’s blood from your hand. When you till the ground, it shall no longer yield its strength to you. A fugitive and a vagabond you shall be on the earth.”

“And Cain said to the Lord, “My punishment is greater than I can bear!”

“Surely You have driven me out this day from the face of the ground; I shall be hidden from Your face; I shall be a fugitive and a vagabond on the earth, and it will happen that anyone who finds me will kill me.”
And the Lord said to him, “Therefore, whoever kills Cain, vengeance shall be taken on him sevenfold.” And the Lord set a mark on Cain, lest anyone finding him should kill him.
Then Cain went out from the presence of the Lord and dwelt in the land of Nod on the east of Eden.”

In God’s great mercy, He put a mark of protection on Cain.

8. GameDon‘t Get Mad…Change Relay Race

When Cain was told that his offering was unacceptable he became jealous. Cain was so angry at Abel that he killed him.

When we are faced with our shortcomings we must not get angry, instead we should change.

In order to keep a personal relationship with God we must keep the sin out of our lives. When you realize you have a sin in your life you must get rid of that sin by asking God to forgive you and deciding not to do the sin again.

Need:

slips of paper with various sins on each one (one word on each paper). Examples: jealousy, lying, swearing, disobeying, complaining, hating, stealing.

You will need a slip for each person playing the game.

Divide the group into two teams. Line the two teams up in two lines. At a signal the first person from each team must run to the table and pick up a piece of paper with a sin on it, read what the paper says, then crumple it up then toss it into the trash can. Then they must run back to their tem and the next person in line will do the same.

The team that finishes first is the winner.

9. Sin and Disobedience

Instead of getting things right, Cain allowed anger and jealously to overcome him in such a way that it led him to murder his own brother.

God knows our hearts, our attitudes and our actions. The Bible tells us that the heart, the real you, is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked In order words our hearts are sinful.

Jeremiah 17:9-10 NKJV “The heart is deceitful above all things, And desperately wicked; Who can know it?
I, the Lord, search the heart, I test the mind, Even to give every man according to his ways, According to the fruit of his doings.”

Our flesh wants its own way. Everyone is born into sin – they have a sin nature. Every person has sinned.

1 John 1:8 NKJV “If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us.”

This world is still divided into those who submit to God’s plan and those who are determined to do things their own way. From Cain and Abel we can see the importance of doing things God’s way (obedience to God).

Each person should examine their heart and their attitude. When you do something wrong or sin you must accept responsibility – Don’t blame someone else. We must recognize the power and danger of sin. Sin causes sorrow, unhappiness and grief.

Sin separates you from God.

Romans 3:23 NKJV “for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God”

Isaiah 59:2 NKJV “But your iniquities have separated you from your God; And your sins have hidden His face from you, So that He will not hear.”

Sin will be exposed – found out.

Numbers 32:23 NKJV “But if you do not do so, then take note, you have sinned against the Lord; and be sure your sin will find you out.”

Sin will be punished. Each person will be judged.

Jeremiah 17:10 NKJV “I, the Lord, search the heart, I test the mind, Even to give every man according to his ways, According to the fruit of his doings.”

Romans 6:23 NKJV “For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.”

Revelation 20:11-15 NKJV “Then I saw a great white throne and Him who sat on it, from whose face the earth and the heaven fled away. And there was found no place for them. And I saw the dead, small and great, standing before God, and books were opened. And another book was opened, which is the Book of Life. And the dead were judged according to their works, by the things which were written in the books. The sea gave up the dead who were in it, and Death and Hades delivered up the dead who were in them. And they were judged, each one according to his works. Then Death and Hades were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death. And anyone not found written in the Book of Life was cast into the lake of fire.”

Sin can be forgiven – God provided a way of forgiveness.

Ephesians 1:7 NKJV “In Him we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of His grace”

1John 1:9 NKJV “If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.”

Ephesians 2:8-9 NKJV “For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God,
not of works, lest anyone should boast.”

On 8 index cards write a “O” and on 8 index cards write an “X”.

Divide the class into two teams. Place the tic-tac-toe board a short distance from the teams. Give one team the “O” cards and the other team the “X” cards.

Ask the teams questions, one at a time. If they answer the question correctly the may place one of their cards on the board. The first team that gets three of their cards in a row is the winner.

12. Challenge and Altar Call

Cain gave a “token” gift, not his best. His heart was not right with God. God gave Cain a chance to make things right, but instead of doing right he chose to do wrong. Cain committed a sin by killing his brother.

When confronted with his sin, he was sorry about the punishment he would receive and not about the sin he had committed. Cain expressed distress only at the punishment he received, not at the crime he had done. Nor was there any note of repentance concerning his dreadful action.

Sometimes we are a lot like Cain. When we are confronted (either through God’s Word, by other people or by the Holy Spirit) with what is really in our heart we get mad. Instead of repenting and changing our hearts start to become hard and we stop listening to our conscience. Before we know it things that made us feel guilty in the past don’t bother us anymore. When this happen we are in trouble. You might have changed, but God’s standards of right and wrong haven’t. Confess your sin, and be willing to follow your conscience and the Holy Spirit.

We need to offer God our best and we can’t do it with sin in our lives. Our hearts must be pure.

Give the children time to pray.

Is our offering acceptable to God?

Are there things in your life that made you feel guilty in the past but not anymore?

Are we really sorry?

When we ask for forgiveness, is it because we are sorry we “caught” or because we are sorry we committed a sin against a holy God?

When confronted with your sin, do you get mad (such as Cain did) or does it lead you to repentance?

ONCE UPON A TIME A SNAKE WALKED AND TALKED

Bible Truth: We cannot hide our sin from God.

Romans 5:12

Genesis 3:8-11

Genesis 3:12-23

2. Introduction – Once Upon A Time A Snake Walked And Talked

God had created a beautiful world in which for man to live. After that He made a lovely garden for the purpose of being man’s home. It had everything that man needed. It was filled with all types of plants, trees, and animals. God told Adam , “You may eat of every tree in the garden except one. You are not to eat from the tree of knowledge of good and evil. If you eat from that tree you will die.”

The garden paradise was a wonderful place to live. Adam and Eve enjoyed many walks in the garden. In the evening God Himself would even come down and walk and talk with them. One day while Adam and Eve were walking in the garden they were approached by a serpent.

“Has God indeed said, ‘You shall not eat of every tree of the garden?’” asked the serpent.

Eve answered, “ God said that we could eat from any of the trees in the garden except the one in the middle. If we eat it or touch it God said that we would die.”

“You won’t really die. If you eat of it you will be like God. That’s why He doesn’t want you to eat it,” said the serpent.

Adam and Eve were tempted by what the serpent had said so they went to the middle of the garden to look at the tree of knowledge of good and evil. When Eve looked at the tree and the fruit that was on it, she thought about how good the fruit looked and how good it must taste. The fruit was very desirable to Eve, so she took a piece of fruit from the tree and she took a bite out of it. Then she handed the fruit to Adam and he too took a bite.

As soon as Adam ate the fruit their eyes were opened – they now had knowledge of good and evil. It was at this moment that they realized they were naked. They were ashamed of their nakedness so they sewed fig leaves together to cover themselves.

That evening, like all other evenings, God came down for His walk with Adam and Eve. These walks were very special to God as well as to Adam and Eve. “Adam……Adam,” called God.

Adam and Eve hid themselves under the trees because they were so afraid. They knew that they had disobeyed God and they were both afraid and ashamed.

“Where are you Adam?” God called out.

“I heard Your voice calling me and I was afraid because I was naked, so I hid myself,” answered Adam.

“Naked? Who told you that you were naked?” asked God. “Have you eaten from the one tree that I told you not to?”

“The woman that You gave me as a helper gave me some to eat and I ate it,” said Adam.

“Eve, what is this that you have done?” asked God.

The serpent deceived me and I ate the fruit off the tree,” answered Eve.

God looked at the serpent and said to him, “Because you have done this you will crawl on your belly from now on.”

God then told Adam and Eve the punishment that they would receive for disobeying Him and thereby causing sin to enter into the world. After that God them clothes made tunics of animal skin.

Then God said, “The man now knows good and evil so we must make him leave the garden before he eats from the tree of life and lives forever.” So God drove Adam and Eve out of the garden an d placed a cherubim at the entrance to guard it.

This disobedience became known as the “fall of man.”

4. Memory Verse

Genesis 3:8 “And they heard the sound of the Lord God walking in the garden in the cool of the day, and Adam and his wife hid themselves from the presence of the Lord God among the trees of the garden.”

5. In The Garden

God made man from clay and placed him in a beautiful garden. The man’s name was Adam.

Genesis 2:7-9 NKJV “And the Lord God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living being. The Lord God planted a garden eastward in Eden, and there He put the man whom He had formed. And out of the ground the Lord God made every tree grow that is pleasant to the sight and good for food. The tree of life was also in the midst of the garden, and the tree of the knowledge of good and evil.”

The task of working in the garden and taking care of it was given to Adam by God.

Genesis 2:15 NKJV “Then the Lord God took the man and put him in the garden of Eden to tend and keep it.”

Adam was told that he could eat of every tree in the garden except one, the tree of knowledge of good and evil. This was the first command that God gave and it was serious. The penalty for disobedience was death, separation from God.

Genesis 2:16-17 NKJV “And the Lord God commanded the man, saying, “Of every tree of the garden you may freely eat;
but of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil you shall not eat, for in the day that you eat of it you shall surely die.”

God knew that it was not good for man to be alone – he needed a companion and helpmate. In all of God’s creation, there was not a suitable companion for Adam, so God formed a woman using one of Adam’s ribs. The woman was named Eve.

Genesis 2:18-24 NKJV “And the Lord God said, “It is not good that man should be alone; I will make him a helper comparable to him.”
Out of the ground the Lord God formed every beast of the field and every bird of the air, and brought them to Adam to see what he would call them. And whatever Adam called each living creature, that was its name.
So Adam gave names to all cattle, to the birds of the air, and to every beast of the field. But for Adam there was not found a helper comparable to him. And the Lord God caused a deep sleep to fall on Adam, and he slept; and He took one of his ribs, and closed up the flesh in its place. Then the rib which the Lord God had taken from man He made into a woman, and He brought her to the man. And Adam said: “This is now bone of my bones And flesh of my flesh; She shall be called Woman, Because she was taken out of Man.” Therefore a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and they shall become one flesh.”

6. Game – Remember God’s Commands – Elephant Trunk

The commands that God gives us are for our own good. They are given to help us not hurt us. We must remember what He has commanded us and act upon what we know.

Elephants have very good memories.

Need:

2 stockings

2 small bats or sticks

empty cans

Divide the group into two teams. Line up the teams. Give the first person on each team a stocking. The goal is to knock over cans using a baseball bat hanging from panty hose worn on the head.

At the signal the first person on each team will run to where their cans are stacked and knock them over. They will then run back to their team. The next person in line will repeat the process. You will need someone to restack the cans for each team. The team that finishes first is the winner.

7. Satan Appears To Adam and Eve

One day as they walked in the garden, a serpent questioned Eve concerning God’s command. The serpent was really Satan. He wanted to ruin God’s beautiful creation by getting Adam and Eve to disobey God. Satan hates God and he would do anything to get at God.

Genesis 3:1 NKJV “Now the serpent was more cunning than any beast of the field which the Lord God had made. And he said to the woman, “Has God indeed said, ‘You shall not eat of every tree of the garden’?”

Eve explained they could eat from all trees except one.

Genesis 3:2-3 NKJV “And the woman said to the serpent, “We may eat the fruit of the trees of the garden;
but of the fruit of the tree which is in the midst of the garden, God has said, ‘You shall not eat it, nor shall you touch it, lest you die.’”

Satan questioned God’s word, then he openly lied to Eve, contradicting what God had said. Then he used the tantalizing bait that they could be more like God by having their eyes opened, knowing things they currently didn’t know. Eve thought the tree was good for food and desirable to make one wise despite God himself telling Adam that eating from the tree would only lead to death. Satan assured her that she and Adam would not die but would be like God, knowing good and evil. Why would they accept the word of a talking serpent over the word of God? Did they doubt God’s word and God’s motives?

Genesis 3:4-5 NKJV “Then the serpent said to the woman, “You will not surely die.
For God knows that in the day you eat of it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil.”

Eve disobeyed God and ate the fruit, then she gave some to Adam. They didn’t just ignorantly decide to eat the fruit, nor did they eat it because they were made to. Satan’s outright lies and cunning half-truths brought something to the surface of their minds. Did they desire to be like God? Did they resent serving God?

Genesis 3:6-7 NKJV “So when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, that it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree desirable to make one wise, she took of its fruit and ate. She also gave to her husband with her, and he ate. Then the eyes of both of them were opened, and they knew that they were naked; and they sewed fig leaves together and made themselves coverings.”

8. Game – Jesus Is My Covering Musical Chairs

After God had confronted Adam and Eve about their sin, He made a covering for them out of animal sin. God gives us a “covering” for our sin also. However, we have to accept this “covering”.

God tells us that if we will turn to Him and accept Jesus as our Savior, then turn away from sin, our sins will be forgiven. Some people get too busy in their lives to accept God’s offer. Even after some people accept Jesus as Savior, they get too busy to have a special friendship with Him. God wants to forgive our sins and He wants us to take time to know Him.

Say: We’re going to play a game of musical chairs. When the music stops find a chair to sit in. The person left standing will represent someone who accepted the covering provided for us by Jesus. The last person left is the winner.

9. Sin, Pride and Disobedience

The sin of pride that led to Satan’s fall had now infected the hearts and minds of Adam and Eve, and the result was the same: shame, loss of wisdom, ruin and death. This disobedience is how sin entered the world. It ruined God’s perfect creation.

Romans 5:12 NKJV “Therefore, just as through one man sin entered the world, and death through sin, and thus death spread to all men, because all sinned”

Since then, every person who has been born has a sinful nature. This sinful nature does not want to please God and causes man to be separated from God. Once they ate the fruit (disobeyed God) their eyes were open and they realized they were naked. They were ashamed and tried to hide their nakedness by sewing fig leaves together for clothing. That evening God came to the garden to walk and talk with Adam and Eve as usual. When they heard God’s voice they hid because they were afraid. They did not want God to know that they had disobeyed.

Genesis 3:8-9 NKJV “And they heard the sound of the Lord God walking in the garden in the cool of the day, and Adam and his wife hid themselves from the presence of the Lord God among the trees of the garden.
Then the Lord God called to Adam and said to him, “Where are you?”

Genesis 3:10-11 NKJV “So he said, “I heard Your voice in the garden, and I was afraid because I was naked; and I hid myself.” And He said, “Who told you that you were naked? Have you eaten from the tree of which I commanded you that you should not eat?”

10. Game – Simon Says

Play “Simon Says” for about 5 minutes. When a person is out they must sit down.

As we played “Simon Says” there were people who got out right away. They heard my voice, but they weren’t paying attention or didn’t understand what I said when they heard so they didn’t obey. Some people are like these people with God’s Word. They hear the Word of God, but they don’t listen carefully and obey it.

The second group of players that got out, did what I said for a while, but not for the whole game. Some people are like these people with spiritual things. They obey God’s Word for a time, but then they turn away from God because of bad things that happen in their lives or because they give in to temptation that come. They stop trying to please or obey God.

The third group listened and obeyed my words the entire time. They persevered and worked hard to stay in the game. That’s like people who listen to and obey God’s Word their entire lives. They don’t stop obeying God when they’re tempted to do wrong or when bad things happen in their lives. They persevere, or follow through, on their decision to live for God.

Maybe you have accepted God into your life, but you feel like sleeping in on Sundays or doing and saying the things others at school do. Don’t give in to temptation! Make up your mind today to obey God – then obey Him! Heaven will be your reward.

11. Consequences

God questioned Adam and Eve about their disobedience. We see the sin of pride showing through in their replies. Neither one accepted personal responsibility. Eve blamed the serpent ( “The serpent deceived me”) and Adam blamed Eve ( “The woman you gave to be with me enticed me.).

These are not the responses of broken and contrite spirit or heart.

Genesis 3:12-14 NKJV “Then the man said, “The woman whom You gave to be with me, she gave me of the tree, and I ate.”
And the Lord God said to the woman, “What is this you have done?” The woman said, “The serpent deceived me, and I ate.” So the Lord God said to the serpent: “Because you have done this, You are cursed more than all cattle, And more than every beast of the field; On your belly you shall go, And you shall eat dust All the days of your life.”

In the midst of the disappointment, God promised that one day He would send One who would have victory over Satan and put away sin. He would send a Redeemer – the Messiah. The One whom He was speaking about was Jesus Christ. He said that Jesus would destroy Satan and restore them to a right relationship with Him. However, in the meantime man could only approach God with a blood sacrifice. This animal acted as a substitute for the penalty of sin until the Lamb of God (Jesus Christ) would come and redeem man.

Genesis 3:15 NKJV “And I will put enmity Between you and the woman, And between your seed and her Seed; He shall bruise your head, And you shall bruise His heel.”

Because of God’s great love and mercy for man, God made clothes from animal skins to cover Adam and Eve.

Genesis 3:21 NKJV “Also for Adam and his wife the Lord God made tunics of skin, and clothed them.”

The serpent, Adam and Eve all were to suffer the consequences of God’s judgment because of their sin.

Genesis 3:16-19 NKJV “To the woman He said: “I will greatly multiply your sorrow and your conception; In pain you shall bring forth children; Your desire shall be for your husband, And he shall rule over you.”
Then to Adam He said, “Because you have heeded the voice of your wife, and have eaten from the tree of which I commanded you, saying, ‘You shall not eat of it’: “Cursed is the ground for your sake; In toil you shall eat of it All the days of your life.
Both thorns and thistles it shall bring forth for you, And you shall eat the herb of the field.
In the sweat of your face you shall eat bread Till you return to the ground, For out of it you were taken; For dust you are, And to dust you shall return.”

Adam and Eve were sent out of the garden as well as other punishments. Angels with flaming swords were placed at the entrance to the garden to guard the tree of life. God did not want Adam and Eve to eat from the tree of life after they had disobey because He did not want them to be doomed to live forever in their sinful state.

Genesis 3:22-23 NKJV “Then the Lord God said, “Behold, the man has become like one of Us, to know good and evil. And now, lest he put out his hand and take also of the tree of life, and eat, and live forever”—
therefore the Lord God sent him out of the garden of Eden to till the ground from which he was taken.
So He drove out the man; and He placed cherubim at the east of the garden of Eden, and a flaming sword which turned every way, to guard the way to the tree of life.”

13. Challenge and Altar Call

God expects obedience. When we don’t obey it effects us and everyone else. God gives us rules for our own good – not to hurt us but to help us. We can build a fence against temptations. There are several things we can do to build fences that hold back temptations. Listening in church, reading the Bible and obeying it, talking to God in prayer, and spending time with Christian friends are all ways to help strengthen us in resisting temptations. We should examine our hearts to see if there is any disobedience (or other sins) in it. What is on our insides will eventually come out. Just like God provided Adam and Eve with a physical covering because of their sin, He has provided us a spiritual covering because of our sin.

Allow the children time to pray.

Are there temptations in your life that are hard to resist?

Are you building “fences” against them?

Have you accepted responsibility for your sin and asked God to forgive you?

Have you accepted Jesus as your Redeemer?

Genesis 1:26-28

2. Introduction – Once Upon A Time In A Secret Garden

Once upon a time in a far off land God planted a garden. It was a very extraordinary place. In it God made every tree grow that was beautiful. The fruit that the trees produced was very delicious. In the middle of this garden, God placed two very, very special trees; the tree of life, the tree of knowledge of good and evil.

The special garden was watered by a river that flowed from Eden. After the river flowed from the garden it divided and became four rivers; Pishon, Gihon, Hiddekel, and Euphrates.

After creating this marvelous, sinless, and peaceful place God took Adam and placed him in it. Adam was to take care of the garden which was called the garden of Eden.

“You may eat of every tree in the garden except one. You are not to eat from the tree of knowledge of good and evil. If you eat from that tree you will die,” said God.

After instructing Adam on what he was to do and not do, God brought all the animals to Adam one type at a time to see what he would call them. The name that Adam chose was the name that God gave the animals.

After naming all the animals and birds God saw that there was not a suitable mate for Adam. So God caused a deep sleep to come upon Adam. While Adam was asleep God took a rib from Adam, then made a woman from it. After creating the woman God brought her to Adam to be his mate and helper.

When Adam saw the woman he said, “This is now bone of my bones and flesh of my flesh. She shall be called Woman, because she was taken out of Man.”

Adam and Eve were both naked and they were not ashamed of it.

Genesis 2:16-17 “And the Lord God commanded the man, saying, ‘Of every tree of the garden you may freely eat; but of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil you shall not eat, for in the day that you eat of it you shall surly die.’ ”

5. The Garden of Eden

The Garden of Eden is described in the Bible as a wonderful and beautiful place and the original home of man. The exact location of the Garden of Eden is impossible to know for certainty.

Genesis 2:8-9 NKJV “The Lord God planted a garden eastward in Eden, and there He put the man whom He had formed.
And out of the ground the Lord God made every tree grow that is pleasant to the sight and good for food. The tree of life was also in the midst of the garden, and the tree of the knowledge of good and evil.”

We see from the above scriptures that God made man and immediately gave him a home. God called it the Garden of Eden. God personally planted the garden – He personally designed a special garden where man would live. The word “Eden” means “delight.” This garden was beautiful to look upon and there was good food for man. God appreciates beauty and He gave man within his makeup the ability to appreciate beauty also.

Genesis 2:8 NKJV “The Lord God planted a garden eastward in Eden, and there He put the man whom He had formed.”

The term Eden is not explained except that it is eastward. The planting of a garden is a touch of God’s meticulous, loving, and personal care toward His creation.

Genesis 2:9 NKJV “And out of the ground the Lord God made every tree grow that is pleasant to the sight and good for food. The tree of life was also in the midst of the garden, and the tree of the knowledge of good and evil.”

As created, man was able to enjoy beautiful and pleasant sights – something that would later become corrupted by sin and give rise to lust

1 John 2:15-16 NKJV “Do not love the world or the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. For all that is in the world—the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life—is not of the Father but is of the world.”

Cut the front of the cereal boxes into eight pieces each – keep each one separate (use a paper clip or baggie for each one).

Genesis 2:16-17 “And the Lord God commanded the man, saying, ‘Of every tree of the garden you may freely eat; but of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil you shall not eat, for in the day that you eat of it you shall surly die.’ ”

Divide the class into teams. Line the teams up into rows. Give each child a puzzle ( the front of a cereal box that has been cut into eight pieces). At the signal the first person on each team will run to the front and assemble their puzzle. After their puzzle is together, they will say the memory verse then run back to their team. The process continues until a team is finished. The team that finishes first is the winner.

7. The Four Rivers

The Bible reveals that a river flowed out of the garden and was divided into four branches. The four branches were: the Tigris, Euphrates, Pishon, and Gihon. With great care, God prepared the habitation of His people, including their water supply.

Genesis 2:10-14 NKJV “Now a river went out of Eden to water the garden, and from there it parted and became four riverheads. The name of the first is Pishon; it is the one which skirts the whole land of Havilah, where there is gold. And the gold of that land is good. Bdellium and the onyx stone are there. The name of the second river is Gihon; it is the one which goes around the whole land of Cush. The name of the third river is Hiddekel; it is the one which goes toward the east of Assyria. The fourth river is the Euphrates.”

The names Pishon, Gihon, Hiddekel, and Euphrates relate to later rivers that were known to the first readers of the text. The Flood obliterated earlier river courses, therefore later rivers likely would only approximate the location of the original ones. In the world today the Tigris (Hiddekel) and Euphrates rivers flow from the Persian Gulf up and through the countries of Iraq, Syria, and Turkey. The other two branches, the Pishon, and Gihon are a mystery. The lack of present day reference indicates to us that the Garden of Eden can not be placed geographically in the world today. The geography of the post-flood earth is much different than what earlier existed.

8. Game – Four Rivers Soccer Roll

Need: 2 teams of equal number, 2 small soccer balls, 8 markers.

Label the markers our rivers : Pishon, Gihon, Hiddekel, and Euphrates (need 2 of each )

Line the children up in 2 rows. Place the markers in position.

*     *     *     *                                            children

*     *     *     *                                            children

Give the first person on each team a small soccer ball. At the signal the first person on each team is to roll the ball with their feet around the 4 markers, then back to their team. The next person on the team will do the same. The first team to finish is the winner.

9. The Two Trees

The Garden of Eden was an extraordinarily garden. It had choice specimens of the finest trees and plants. Two trees of very special importance were planted in the center of the garden, the tree of life and the tree of the knowledge of good and evil.

Genesis 2:17 NKJV “but of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil you shall not eat, for in the day that you eat of it you shall surely die.”

Genesis 2:15 NKJV “Then the Lord God took the man and put him in the garden of Eden to tend and keep it.”

God give man permission and restriction. The permission was broad and the restriction was narrow. Man could do almost anything he wanted – he could eat of every tree except one.

Genesis 2:16-17 NKJV “And the Lord God commanded the man, saying, “Of every tree of the garden you may freely eat; but of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil you shall not eat, for in the day that you eat of it you shall surely die.”

The tree of knowledge of good and evil suggests “full knowledge”. We know little about this tree, but what do know is: Adam was told not to eat of the tree and that the penalty for disobeying this command was death – separation from God’s presence.

10. Game – Two Trees Basketball Dribble

Need

A poster board with two trees drawn on it (label the trees: the tree of life and the tree of knowledge of good and evil)

2 basketballs (or other balls that will bounce)

Divide the group into two teams. Line the children up in two rows a short distance from the poster. Give the first person on each team a ball that will bounce. At the signal the first person on each team will dribble the ball to the sign and say the names of the two trees, then dribble the ball back to their team and give it to the next person. The process will continue until everyone on one team has had a turn. The team that finishes first is the winner.

11. Man’s First Home

The garden was man’s home. It was perfectly prepared however, it had to be tended to and cared for. Even the Biblical paradise required work. What God gave to man (a home / the Garden of Eden), He required man to be responsible for. The garden needed dressing and keeping. To cultivate the garden and be sustained by it was to be the occupation of man. Man was not to be waited on hand and foot but was given a job and purpose – to be productive in providing the management of the Garden.

Genesis 1:26-28 NKJV “Then God said, “Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness; let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over the cattle, over all the earth and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth.” So God created man in His own image; in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them. Then God blessed them, and God said to them, “Be fruitful and multiply; fill the earth and subdue it; have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over every living thing that moves on the earth.”

12. Worship Song – _____________________________

13. Challenge and Altar Call

* Just as God took special care in providing for Adam and Eve, He takes special care in providing for your needs.

* Just as God was concerned about Adam and Eve’s need, He is concerned about your needs.

* Just like God gave Adam a job or purpose, He has given you one also.

* Just as God gave Adam and Eve a restriction, He has given you restrictions also.

* Just as God gave Adam and Eve a choice – to obey or to disobey, God has given you a choice also – to obey Him or to disobey Him.

*Just as the penalty for disobeying God was separation from God for Adam and Eve, so is the penalty for us for disobeying.

Give the children a chance to pray concerning the following:

Have you thanked God for providing for your needs?

Have you went to God in prayer about your concerns?

Are you fulfilling God’s purpose for your life?

Are you obeying God’s commands?

Have you asked for forgiveness for your sins and disobeying God?

“Once Upon A Time Clay Came To Life”

ONCE UPON A TIME CLAY CAME TO LIFE

Theme:  Adam and Eve, clay

Memory Verse:  Genesis 1:27

Bible Truth:  God created people in His image.

Bible Text:

Genesis 1:27

Genesis 2:7-22

Jeremiah 29:11

1. Open in prayer

2. Introduction – Clay Comes To Life

Once upon a time what was just ordinary clay or dirt became a living, breathing, and talking human being. God had just finished creating a beautiful world. He looked around and everything that He created was good. Then God said, “Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness. Let them rule over all creation.”

So God took some clay from the ground and formed man. Then He breathed into the man’s nose and the man became a living being. God named the man Adam.

Everything that was made was made by the spoken word of God, except man. God breathed a breath of life into man instead. Only man was created in the image and likeness of God.

After looking at all His creation God realized that there was not a suitable mate for Adam. God said, “It is not good for man to live alone.” God caused a deep sleep to fall on Adam. While Adam was asleep God took a rib from him, then He made a woman from the rib that He had taken from Adam.

God allowed Adam to name the woman. The name that Adam choose was Eve.

5. Game -Cup Stacking Relay

Need:

2 teams (everyone can play, however the teams need to be even)

Cups to stack (stacking cups) / 10 per team

Line the teams up in 2 rows. At the signal the first girl on each team will run to the cups and stack them up.

Then they will unstack them and run back to their team. The next girl will do the same and so on. The team that finishes first is the winner.

6. God Creates Adam

After God made the earth, He scooped up dust from the ground and used it to form a man. God breathed life into the man and named Him Adam.

Genesis 2:7 NKJV “And the Lord God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living being.”

Then God made a garden where Adam could live. It was in a place called Eden. The garden had a river flowing through it and lots of beautiful flowers and trees.

Genesis 2:8-15 NKJV “The Lord God planted a garden eastward in Eden, and there He put the man whom He had formed. And out of the ground the Lord God made every tree grow that is pleasant to the sight and good for food. The tree of life was also in the midst of the garden, and the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. Now a river went out of Eden to water the garden, and from there it parted and became four riverheads.
The fourth river is the Euphrates. Then the Lord God took the man and put him in the garden of Eden to tend and keep it.”

After God created Adam, He gave to him dominion over all His creation and the garden of Eden as a home to tend it and keep it. In the center of the garden, God planted two special trees. One was the tree of life. The other was the tree of knowledge of good and evil. The only gave one restriction: that God gave Adam was that he must never eat from this tree. If he did, Adam would know what it meant to participate in evil, and the result would be banishment and death. The death that God was referring to was separation from Him.

Genesis 2:16-17 NKJV “And the Lord God commanded the man, saying, “Of every tree of the garden you may freely eat; but of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil you shall not eat, for in the day that you eat of it you shall surely die.”

7. Game – In God’s Image Relay

Need:

2 teams (everyone can play, however the teams need to be even)

2 mirrors

“So God created man in His own image; in the image of God He created him, male and female He created them.”

Genesis 1:27

Line the teams up in two rows. At the signal the first person on each team will run to the front and pick up a mirror and say, “I AM CREATED IN GOD’S IMAGE.” Then they will run back to their team. The next person will do the same and so on. The team that finishes first is the winner.

8. God Creates Eve

In the garden, God brought all the animals to Adam for him to name them. Adam was lonely because he was alone – there was not a companion for him.

Genesis 2:18-20 NKJV “And the Lord God said, “It is not good that man should be alone; I will make him a helper comparable to him.” Out of the ground the Lord God formed every beast of the field and every bird of the air, and brought them to Adam to see what he would call them. And whatever Adam called each living creature, that was its name. So Adam gave names to all cattle, to the birds of the air, and to every beast of the field. But for Adam there was not found a helper comparable to him.”

God put Adam to sleep and made a woman from a rib from Adam. The woman was named Eve.

Genesis 2:21-22 NKJV “And the Lord God caused a deep sleep to fall on Adam, and he slept; and He took one of his ribs, and closed up the flesh in its place. Then the rib which the Lord God had taken from man He made into a woman, and He brought her to the man.”

11. Challenge and Altar Call- God Made You Unique

God created all people. He made everyone according to his own special plan. And all people are beautiful to God and He desires a relationship with each one of them.

The dictionary describes unique as being different from others in a way that makes you special and worthy of note. You are one of a kind and special. God made you unique and He has a very special plan for your life.

Jeremiah 29:11 NKJV “For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says the Lord, thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you a future and a hope.”

The plan that God has for you is not the same plan that He has for someone else. It is up to each one of us to walk the path that God has laid out before us. Not someone else’ path, but our path.

God’s plan for us is filled with hope. God’s plan for you is a good plan, not an evil plan. Before you were even born, God knew you and had a plan for you. God never makes mistakes and there are no accidents with God.

Each one of us was created to be like God in righteousness and holiness. Through Jesus we can truly be made new.

Give the children time to pray.

God’s first plan for you is for you to be made new through His Son, Jesus. Have you accepted this plan for your life?

Have you allowed Jesus to create in you a clean heart?

Are you growing in your relationship with God?

“Once Upon A Time In A Dark Land”

3-25-2014 9;22;21 AM - Copy (2)

Theme:  creation

Memory Verse:  Genesis 1:1

Bible Truth:  God made the world and all that is in the world.

Bible Text:

Genesis 1:1-2:3

John 1:1-3

1. Open in prayer

2. Introduction – Once Upon A Time The Whole World Was Dark

Once upon a time a long time ago the whole world was dark and empty. There was no light to be found anywhere.

As the Spirit of God hovered over the waters He said, “Let there be light.” God is very powerful and what He speaks always happens. At the command of His voice, light filled the world. God called the light areas Day and the dark areas Night. This day became known as the first day of creation.

“It is good,” thought God as He looked out over all the glorious light beaming across the sky.

The next day as God gazed at the waters He said, “Let there be a firmament to divide the waters. All the sudden part of the waters gathered into a liquid state and part of the waters turned into moisture in the atmosphere. Many today refer to this beautiful firmament as the sky or heavens.

“It is good,” thought God as He looked at the blue sky.

The third day brought many lovely colors into the world. For on the third day God gathered the waters into one place and called them Seas. After that God made land appear above the surface of the seas.

“It is good,” thought God as He looked at the land on which He had placed many, many colorful trees and plants.

The next day God placed twinkling stars in the sky. As God thought about His new creation His mind was thinking about what to make that could rule the day and night. A large light was created to rule the day. We call this large light the sun. After that God created something that could rule the night by reflecting light. We know this reflecting light as the moon. The moon emits no light of its own. It only reflects light from the sun.

God said, “Let there be an abundance of living creatures in the sea, and let birds to fly in sky,“ on fifth day. And it was so. As God looked at His new creation it was good and He blessed it.

The next day, God said, “Let the earth bring forth living creatures.” At that instant all the animals in the world appeared in response to the voice of God.

God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit looked at all creation. “Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness. Let them rule over all creation,” said God. So man was created in the very image and likeness of God.

For six days God had worked creating the heavens and the earth, and every thing in them. On the seventh day God ended His work and He rested. Then God blessed the seventh day because it was the day the He rested from all His work.

So once upon a time a long time ago what was dark and empty became bright and full of life.

4. Memory Verse

Genesis 1:1 NKJV “In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.”

5. God Made The World

God made the world, and all that is in the world, and the entire universe out of nothing. He spoke His Word, and everything came into existence. This is referred to as creation. God created the world in six days.

In the beginning there was God – God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit. There was no earth, sky, sea, sun, moon , stars, animals, plants or people. Just God and darkness. All three (God the Father, Christ the Son, and the Holy Ghost) were present at creation.

Genesis 1:1-2 NKJV “In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. The earth was without form, and void; and darkness was on the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God was hovering over the face of the waters.”

John 1:1-3 NKJV “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God.
All things were made through Him, and without Him nothing was made that was made.”

Genesis 1:26 NKJV “Then God said, “Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness; let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over the cattle, over all the earth and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth.”

God spoke in the darkness: “Let there be light!” And right away there was light, scattering the darkness and showing the infinite space.

Genesis 1:1-2 NKJV “In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. The earth was without form, and void; and darkness was on the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God was hovering over the face of the waters.”

“That’s good!” said God. “From now on, when it’s dark it will be ‘night” and when it’s light, it will be ‘day’.” The evening came and the night passed and then the light returned. That was the first day.

Genesis 1:3-5 NKJV “Then God said, “Let there be light”; and there was light. And God saw the light, that it was good; and God divided the light from the darkness. God called the light Day, and the darkness He called Night. So the evening and the morning were the first day.”

6. Game -“Kangaroo Hop” Relay Race

Need:

A sign with the Bible verse on it.

“In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.”

Genesis 1:1 NKJV

Line the two teams up in two rows. Tape the sign a short distance from the teams. At the signal the first person on each team is to hop to the front and say the Bible verse, then hop back to their team. The next person on the team will do the same thing. The team that finishes first is the winner.

7. Day 2, 3 and 4 Of Creation

On the second day, God created sky to separate the waters. God made the earth and over it He carefully hung a vast blue sky. God created a great water canopy in the heavens above the earth. This created a green house effect over all the earth. The canopy kept climatic conditions stable which would account for the lack of rain fall which unstable weather condition would cause. Later as recorded in Genesis 6, God opened the fountains of heaven (the canopy) and rain fell on the earth for the first time in the Great Flood. God stood back and admired His creation. “That’s good too!”

Genesis 1:6-8 NKJV “Then God said, “Let there be a firmament in the midst of the waters, and let it divide the waters from the waters.” Thus God made the firmament, and divided the waters which were under the firmament from the waters which were above the firmament; and it was so. And God called the firmament Heaven. So the evening and the morning were the second day.”

The “firmament” here refers to the atmospheric heaven where the clouds are as well as the celestial heaven where the stars are.

God gathered all the water together on the third day, so that dry land appeared for the first time. He put all the water in one place and all the dry land in another. When He had finished that, God made plants to cover the land. All sorts of plants, trees and grasses began to grow.

Genesis 1:9-13 NKJV “Then God said, “Let the waters under the heavens be gathered together into one place, and let the dry land appear”; and it was so. And God called the dry land Earth, and the gathering together of the waters He called Seas. And God saw that it was good. Then God said, “Let the earth bring forth grass, the herb that yields seed, and the fruit tree that yields fruit according to its kind, whose seed is in itself, on the earth”; and it was so. And the earth brought forth grass, the herb that yields seed according to its kind, and the tree that yields fruit, whose seed is in itself according to its kind. And God saw that it was good. So the evening and the morning were the third day.”

Then, on the forth day God put lights in the heavens. God created the sun, moon, and the stars. He placed them in the firmament (heavens) to provide light for the earth, and to provide seasons for each year. He made a big light for the day and a smaller light for the night. He also made stars on this day. God made the sun to light the sky during the day and the moon and stars to add a bit of sparkle to the night.

Genesis 1:14-19 NKJV “Then God said, “Let there be lights in the firmament of the heavens to divide the day from the night; and let them be for signs and seasons, and for days and years; and let them be for lights in the firmament of the heavens to give light on the earth”; and it was so. Then God made two great lights: the greater light to rule the day, and the lesser light to rule the night. He made the stars also. God set them in the firmament of the heavens to give light on the earth, and to rule over the day and over the night, and to divide the light from the darkness. And God saw that it was good. So the evening and the morning were the fourth day.”

8. Game – Creation Balloon Pop Match-up

Need:

24 balloons

2 large trash bags

Small slips of paper with the following written on them (need 2 copies of each):

Day 1

day and night

Day 2

sky

Day 3

land, mountains, beaches, rivers, lakes, oceans, trees, grass, flowers, plants

Day 4

sun, moon, and stars

Day 5

things in the water and in the air

Day 6

animals, man and woman

Put one slip of paper in each balloon and blow up. Be sure to keep the two sets of balloons separate. Place each set in a large trash bag.

Divide the group into two teams. Place the teams in different areas. Give each team a bag of balloons. At the signal they will open their bag and pour out their balloons onto the floor and begin to stomp on them. The object is to get the slips of papers out of the balloons and correctly match them up. The first team to do so is the winner.

Correct match-up is:

Day 1 – day and night

Day 2 – sky

Day 3 – land, mountains, beaches, rivers, lakes, oceans, trees, grass, flowers, plants

Day 4 – sun, moon, and stars

Day 5 – things in the water and in the air

Day 6 – animals, man and woman

9. Day 5,6 and 7

On the fifth day God turned his attention to the water he had collected in the oceans. God created the fish and all other living creatures in the oceans and the lakes. He also created the birds to fly above the earth.

Genesis 1:20-23 NKJV “Then God said, “Let the waters abound with an abundance of living creatures, and let birds fly above the earth across the face of the firmament of the heavens.” So God created great sea creatures and every living thing that moves, with which the waters abounded, according to their kind, and every winged bird according to its kind. And God saw that it was good. And God blessed them, saying, “Be fruitful and multiply, and fill the waters in the seas, and let birds multiply on the earth.” So the evening and the morning were the fifth day.”

So God created great sea creatures and every living thing that moves, with which the waters abounded, according to their kind, and every winged bird according to its kind. And God saw that it was good. And God blessed them, saying, “Be fruitful and multiply, and fill the waters in the seas, and let birds multiply on the earth.”

On the sixth day God made all the animals that live on the land. It was on this day that God created man, and He created man in His own image. He also created the animals on the sixth day, and He placed man in charge of all the animals. He told man to be fruitful and multiply and fill the earth. God looked around and was happy with all He had made. After six days, the whole universe was completed

Genesis 1:24-31 NKJV “Then God said, “Let the earth bring forth the living creature according to its kind: cattle and creeping thing and beast of the earth, each according to its kind”; and it was so. And God made the beast of the earth according to its kind, cattle according to its kind, and everything that creeps on the earth according to its kind. And God saw that it was good. Then God said, “Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness; let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over the cattle, over all the earth and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth.” So God created man in His own image; in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them. Then God blessed them, and God said to them, “Be fruitful and multiply; fill the earth and subdue it; have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over every living thing that moves on the earth.”
And God said, “See, I have given you every herb that yields seed which is on the face of all the earth, and every tree whose fruit yields seed; to you it shall be for food. Also, to every beast of the earth, to every bird of the air, and to everything that creeps on the earth, in which there is life, I have given every green herb for food”; and it was so.
Then God saw everything that He had made, and indeed it was very good. So the evening and the morning were the sixth day.”

On the seventh day, God ceased from His labor and established the Sabbath. He rested and enjoyed looking at all He had made.

Genesis 2:1-3 NKJV “Thus the heavens and the earth, and all the host of them, were finished.
And on the seventh day God ended His work which He had done, and He rested on the seventh day from all His work which He had done. Then God blessed the seventh day and sanctified it, because in it He rested from all His work which God had created and made.”

10. Worship Song – _______________________________________

11. Life Application and Challenge

In the beginning God fashioned everything anew. He changed disorder into order and emptiness into fullness. The heavens and the earth were recreated. What was void, empty, and dark (evil) became full and full of light.

Just by His words, God gave the world physical light. God declared that the light He had created was good, then He named the light and dark. By naming them, God showed He was Lord over them and that He had power over them.

The ultimate goal and purpose of creation was for the divine light of God to shine throughout the world, transforming everything. Even darkness itself was transformed by the light that God created.

God has always divided the light from the dark.

Just as the natural light was separated from the dark, one day the spiritual light (those who have a right relationship with God) will be separated from the spiritual dark (those who do not have a right relationship with God).
