Jesus Goes to The Temple In Heaven Then Appears To His Disciples

Jesus went to the temple in heaven and presented His own blood as a sacrifice for all the sins of every person. Later that day, Jesus returned to earth and appeared to His disciples.

John 20:19-25 NKJV

“Then, the same day at evening, being the first day of the week, when the doors were shut where the disciples

were assembled, for fear of the Jews, Jesus came and stood in the midst, and said to them, “Peace be with you.”
When He had said this, He showed them His hands and His side. Then the disciples were glad when they saw the Lord.
So Jesus said to them again, “Peace to you! As the Father has sent Me, I also send you.”
And when He had said this, He breathed on them, and said to them, “Receive the Holy Spirit.
If you forgive the sins of any, they are forgiven them; if you retain the sins of any, they are retained.”
Now Thomas, called the Twin, one of the twelve, was not with them when Jesus came.
The other disciples therefore said to him, “We have seen the Lord.” So he said to them, “Unless I see in His hands the print of the nails, and put my finger into the print of the nails, and put my hand into His side, I will not believe.”

Thomas, one of Jesus’ disciples, had not been with the other disciples when Jesus appeared to them. When he arrived they told him about Jesus appearing and the scars on Him. Thomas did not really believe them. He made the comment the he would not believe it was Jesus unless he could actually touch the scars for himself.

John 20:26-28 NKJV

“And after eight days His disciples were again inside, and Thomas with them. Jesus came, the doors being shut, and stood in the midst, and said, “Peace to you!”
Then He said to Thomas, “Reach your finger here, and look at My hands; and reach your hand here, and put it into My side. Do not be unbelieving, but believing.”
And Thomas answered and said to Him, “My Lord and my God!”

Eight days later Jesus appeared to the disciples again. This time Thomas was with them. Jesus stood in front of Thomas and told him to touch His scars. Thomas immediately believed it truly was Jesus.

Acts 1:1-3 NKJV

“The former account I made, O Theophilus, of all that Jesus began both to do and teach, until the day in which He was taken up, after He through the Holy Spirit had given commandments to the apostles whom He had chosen, to whom He also presented Himself alive after His suffering by many infallible proofs, being seen by them during forty days and speaking of the things pertaining to the kingdom of God.”

Matthew 28:19 NKJV

“Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.”

For forty days after His resurrection Jesus stayed on the earth appearing to many different people and teaching them many different truths. Jesus gave the disciples the command to go into all the world and make disciples. We call this commandment “The Great Commission.”

Acts 1:4-11 NKJV

“The former account I made, O Theophilus, of all that Jesus began both to do and teach, until the day in which He was taken up, after He through the Holy Spirit had given commandments to the apostles whom He had chosen,
to whom He also presented Himself alive after His suffering by many infallible proofs, being seen by them during forty days and speaking of the things pertaining to the kingdom of God. And being assembled together with them, He commanded them not to depart from Jerusalem, but to wait for the Promise of the Father, “which,” He said, “you have heard from Me;
for John truly baptized with water, but you shall be baptized with the Holy Spirit not many days from now.”
Therefore, when they had come together, they asked Him, saying, “Lord, will You at this time restore the kingdom to Israel?” And He said to them, “It is not for you to know times or seasons which the Father has put in His own authority.
But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be witnesses to Me in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.” Now when He had spoken these things, while they watched, He was taken up, and a cloud received Him out of their sight. And while they looked steadfastly toward heaven as He went up, behold, two men stood by them in white apparel, who also said, “Men of Galilee, why do you stand gazing up into heaven? This same Jesus, who was taken up from you into heaven, will so come in like manner as you saw Him go into heaven.”

After Jesus told His followers that they would receive power to be His witnesses He began to float up into heaven. Those standing there watch Jesus go out of sight. Then two angels appeared to them and told them that Jesus would return to earth the same way He left.

Jesus Will Return For His Bride

John 14:1-3 NKJV

“Let not your heart be troubled; you believe in God, believe also in Me. In My Father’s house are many mansions; if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to Myself; that where I am, there you may be also. And where I go you know, and the way you know.”

The Bible tells us that Jesus is coming again. One day Jesus will appear in the sky and a trumpet will sound. Jesus will only appear in the sky – His feet will not touch the ground. Those who are true Christians, known as the bride of Christ, will go to be with Him in heaven.

I Thessalonians 4:16-17 NKJV

“For the Lord Himself will descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of an archangel, and with the trumpet of God. And the dead in Christ will rise first. Then we who are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And thus we shall always be with the Lord. Therefore comfort one another with these words.”

We refer to this as the rapture. One meaning of rapture is an experience in which a person is transported into the spiritual realm. It applies to the second coming of Jesus Christ, when true believers will rise up to join Him in heaven. Another word for rapture is Blessed Hope. It means Jesus is coming back to take true Christians to heaven with Him!

Matthew 24:44 NKJV

“Therefore you also be ready, for the Son of Man is coming at an hour you do not expect.”

We must be ready when Jesus returns. Only those who have properly prepared themselves will be taken. Sin interferes with you being properly prepared. We should be ready at all times for Jesus to return because we do not know when He will come. If He finds sin in you when He return, you will not be part of the bride of Christ.

Revelation 3:10 NKJV

“Because you have kept My command to persevere, I also will keep you from the hour of trial which shall come upon the whole world, to test those who dwell on the earth.”

When Jesus takes the true Christians, both those alive and dead, to heaven in the rapture it will be to a feast known as the wedding feast of the bride. This feast will last for seven years. During these seven years while the true Christians are at the feast, the people left on earth will being going through a very horrible and frightening time known as the great tribulation.

Mark 13:5-8 NKJV

“And Jesus, answering them, began to say: “Take heed that no one deceives you. For many will come in My name, saying, ‘I am He,’ and will deceive many. But when you hear of wars and rumors of wars, do not be troubled; for such things must happen, but the end is not yet. For nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. And there will be earthquakes in various places, and there will be famines and troubles. These are the beginnings of sorrows.”

Signs that the rapture will happen soon are found in various places in the Bible. Some of these signs are wars and rumors of war, earthquakes and famines, Christians will be hated, and the Gospel will be preached in every nation.

Camp Challenge

It is God’s desire that all accept the proposal of Jesus. He desires that everyone receive the gift of salvation. The price has already been paid. Jesus gave his very own blood as the price for you to become His bride. To accept the proposal and the gift of salvation we must admit that we are a sinner (that we have done wrong and have sinned against a holy God) and ask God for forgiveness. Then we must believe in Jesus – we must believe that He is the only way to salvation. Then we must confess that Jesus is Lord.

How should we live right now, knowing that Jesus could come back at any time?
